Comments: My father-in-law, Roy L. Barton of Iola, KS, served as radio operator/forward observer mainly with ROK forces. After the War he lost his documents proving he was in combat, which is a prerequisite for some benefits. The government records were burned in a fire in St. Louis about 1970. Roy is now deceased, but I understand that his widow can receive certain benefits. Roy and then his widow have spent several years trying to prove his eligibility, but without the records they have not been successful. So we are looking for anyone who remembers Roy and can sign an affadavit that he served in combat in the Korean War.

Comments: I have renewed friendship with Calvin Jordan, a gunner in my platoon, and we met at the 45th Inf Div Reunion in OKC Sep '01. Also met up with Don Daniels. Harris Hollin, also a Platoon Leader during July-Aug offensive, and I have renewed our friendship and have been in constant contact. We are researching documented data of the combat history of B Battery. Frank Malone, C Battery Platoon Leader during the June-July '53 CCF offensive, and I are also in constant contact. Since B Battery was a "detached" unit on line for the 7th & 20th ROKA Divisions, our efforts seemed to have been overlooked. We did receive citations from commanders of the 7th and 20th ROKA -- if you desire copies, let me know.

Comments: B Battery was cited by Commanders of the 7th ROK Division and 20th ROK Division for their combat effectiveness in the Christmas Hill area during the months of May, June and July 1953. Two M-16 platoons were on line at that time. One led by me, then-Lt Ray Kalil, on Hill 1220 "SP3" - and the other led by then Lt Harris Hollin (SP1-2). Contact me for copies of these citations (the Historian for the 45th Inf Div Museum was not aware of these citations until I sent him copies). I am collecting documented material of our service and performance during this time, and especially photographs. We were never really appreciated for this service by our own command, even though we held our ground when the 20th ROK's were pushed back by the fierce CCF offensive (thirteen battalions!) in the Christmas Hill area. I am in contact with Harris Hollin and then-Sgt Calvin Jordan. Let me hear from you.

YOUR UNIT: B Battery

This was my first visit to your site and I really admire what you folks
are doing. I was in B Battery, 145th AAA AW Bn (SP), Korea Oct,
1951 - June, 1952.

If you get some extra time, go to
http://www.west.ga.net/~stquesin/ssindex.htm

This site is the creation of a high school social studies teacher in
Newnan, GA who has enlisted the memories of a bunch of WWII, Korea,
Vietnam, and Gulf War vets to help him teach modern history by using
email and the internet. I wish there were more like him because I
think that a lot more people should know the stories like those in
your "Return to Heartbreak Ridge."

I correspond with three students in the Newnan high school and one of
them had seen Clint Eastwood in the movie "Heartbreak Ridge" and the
kid asked me if it was a real place.

Thanks, again.
