I encourge all vets to write down/record any of their experiences of serving and sacrificing for our country. We owe you everything. The generations to follow need to know about your service - the good, the bad, the ugly. My father left before I had the good sense to talk with him about it. Don't put it off another day! Comments: (Transcribed by me, Peter Roth. I put this here partly in tribute to my late uncle, but also in hopes that information contained within will help others with research and rememberance.)

Headquarters 45th Infantry Division AP0 85 General Orders 27 July 1953 Number 453

Section I Award of the Silver Star Corporal CHARLES B. ROTH, RA 19446390 (then Private First Class), Infantry, United States Army, distinguished himself by gallantry in action against an armed enemy near Munun-ni, Korea. In the early morning hours of 21 June 1953, a sector of the Allied lines was attacked by a large hostile force equipped with small arms, automatic weapons, and grenades. Corporal ROTH was assistant gunner of a machine gun which proved so costly to the enemy advance that it eventually became the object of the assault. As the opposition surged forward in an attempt to silence his weapon's deadly fire, Corporal ROTH courageously remained in his position despite teh overwhelming odds, and inflicted heavy casualties upon the swarming foe. Fearing a stoppage of his overheated weapon, Corporal ROTH left the partial cover of his emplacement and, braving an intense barrage of histile [sic] fire, succeeded in stopping the Communist charge with accurate rifle and grenade fire. Although wounded by a hostile projectile during the encounter, Corporal ROTH returned to the machine gun and continued his deadly fire until the assailants were forced to withdraw. Corporal ROTH's determined and gallant actions were largely responsible for the successful repulsion of the hostile assault and reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army. Entered the Federal service from California.

Comments: I am in search of anyone who served with my wife's dad in Korea. She was too small when he was around and from what she tells me he never talked about it. He has since past on and she would like to know something about that time in his life. According to the newspaper clippings that I have read he was to have arrived in Korea in Nov. 1952. He was from Minco,Ok. We would appriciate any information that anyone might have. Thanks to all of you served in the 45th in Korea. God bless all of you.
