He passed away in 1994, however, he left me a 45th Infantry Division scrapbook which was published by the division. In the back is an entire division roster by unit giving names and home addresses of soldiers immediately after the war. If I can be of any help to anyone please let me know.

Frank McGill wrote on 2000-05-18 11:02:20.0
Comments: I was a rifleman and an intelligence and reconnaisance scout in the 2nd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment from July through December 1952. I have put together a report on my experiences during that period. My rank was Private First Class. The regimental command reports and the topographical maps at the National Archives in College Park, MD were used in the research for my report. I will send a copy to any soldier who was on line with us at that time.
The battalion left Inje and went on the Minnesota Line (Main Line of Resistance)about 27 Oct 1952. It left the MLR on the last days of December 1952. Its sector was northeast of the Punchbowl. The line (trench) ran from northeast to southwest on that portion of the front. Units of the North Korean 45th Infantry Division opposed the 179th. A unit from the Phillipines was on our right.
The area was very hilly with heights of 700 to 812 meters. Two battalions were in the front trench with the reserve battalion in the trench a few hundred feet to the rear. These trenches were six to eight feet deep. Everything and everybody were underground. The battalions switched positions on 16 Dec.
The Archives at College Park also has photos taken during that period. I have not yet looked at them to see if any were taken of the 179th during this period.
The monthly command reports give a minute by minute history of all activity/communications within the regiment. They were typed back at the regimental headquarters as events unfolded. Anyone who lost a family member and wants to know the events surrounding their loss should order a copy of a specific month from the Archives. They run 300 pages each for November and December.
You feel bad as you work with the command reports at the Archives. They are old and are starting to crumble in your hand. At the end of a day you sweep all of those tiny bits and pieces into your hand and throw them into the trash can. I spoke to the woman in charge of the Army records. I asked when the command reports would be put on microfilm. She said that at this time there is no plan to put them on microfilm.
My address is 521 Warhawk Road, Chesapeake, VA, 23322. My phone number is 757-482-3857.

Comments: I was searching for information of my grand-father who died in the Korean War on June 21, 1952. My father was only 2 years old and remembers nothing about his father. His name was Maximo Febres Kercado. He was in 179 Inf. Rgt., 45 Inf. Div., Service A. I noticed information about him was incorrect, how may I correct it? I think this web-site was great and quite informative. Thank you.
