Comments: My uncle was killed at this battle ans was awarded the DSC and our family has been looking for friends, and information about this battle and people with information about the action that took the life of my uncle. We are trying to get this information as we are requesting for an up-grade in the medal to the Medal of Honor. At this point we need information about who was there and if anyone would be able to give vital information to us. We have been working on this for over a year and have had little information from the U.S. Army as they inform us that all the records were destroyed in a fire in St. Louis.
If any one can assist our family in our quest please let me know.
Thank all of you

God Bless you Sir. you let me volunteer for every patrol, and all the outpost duties on the chop , the jaws and all the other hairy things, and just when I thought I was just about the bravest soldier in Korea, word came down for all the combat paratroopers to volunteer to go back to the 187th to make a combat jump. I went, it never happened , I got stuck in a chickenshit outfit for the last few days of the war war...I feel as though Ive disgraced myself to you, and all the valient brave soldiers of the MIghty "M", Iam so sorry to this day. I hope you read this and get back to me so I can apoligize in person, thanks for making me a good combat soldier Sir. Sincerely. Charles E. Comments: My father-in-law, Robert (Bob) Breen, served in Korea from Jan to Nov 1952 in the 17 INF. I am currently putting all his letters from the war onto the internet to serve as a historic resource.
I'm looking for anyone that may have served with him and could provide some insight into the infantry's role at that time, or better yet if you have any anecdotes about Robert that you can share. He says he was in the 3rd Battalion, if that helps. He also mentions a "Chapman" many times in his letters.
Anyway, Robert Breen passed away in 1996. He suffered from Parkinson's Disease for many years toward the end of his life. He only had one child, Elizabeth, to whom I am married.
Thank you for your time.

Comments: 17th INF. VETERANS, PLEASE HELP. I'm desperately seeking to access a 17th Infantry Regiment roster from the year 1951. I have been attempting to determine the Company assignment of a former 17th Infantry veteran who was twice WIA while serving in Korea. His name was PVT. PERLEY L. BURDICK, asn ER22810252 / MOS-04745 (Burdick = Last Name). He was from Washington County, Rhode Island, and passed away back in 1985. He was twice WIA while with the 17th, on Feb. 27, 1951 & again on Aug. 31, 1951. I have been in contact with the 17th Inf. Veteran's Assn., but it appears as if they don't have a roster available. If anyone would be so kind as to assist me in determining the Company assignment of PVT. BURDICK, I will be MOST DEEPLY APPRECIATIVE. THANK YOU. Regards, Dom Pastore Jr.

Comments: I was an officer's mess sergeant in the Korean War from June 1951 to April 1952 in HQS and HQS in the 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. I have located a few of the men I served with but am still searching for others. I am trying to find a friend who was at that time a mess sergeant first class. He was a career military man. His name is Carl F Mc Daniel. He had 3 sons: David, Mark, and Paul. If you know of him or know if he is still alive please let me know. I would enjoy talking with anyone who was in my unit. Thanks, John H Hooper

Comments: I grew up with Bob Renneman on Long Island, NY. He came back from Germany as 2Lt. at end of WW2, went to USNA where he played football, commissioned 1Lt. out of USNA, and was shipped to Korea .
He lost his brother in WW2. We stayed in touch with his parents for many years.
Any info from men in 17th IR, 7th ID would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: My father Joe Cucurullo (aka Joe Cook)from Brooklyn NY was on Pork Chop with the 7th Div. 17th Inf. Item Co. when the Chinese overran ran it. He caught a mortar blast in the guts April 1, was saved by a black medic, and spent six months recovering in Tokyo. Any comrades out there? (and Joe Gonsalves, he's expecting your call).
