Comments: I'm looking for any information regarding my father's (Paul J. O'Rourke) service in Korea. I lost him to cancer 21 years ago and have very limited information about his service. I know that his was awarded the Silver Star for service on Nov.2,1950 at Pungaa, Korea. He was leading a 60mm mortar squad. The listing I have is Company C, 17th INF.,Apo 7. If anyone has any information or photographs, I and his grandkids would very much appreciate it. I'll reward you for your time and effort. THANK YOU

Comments: In August of 1953 Life Magazine published a photo of Pork Chop Hill taken on the morning of July 28, i953.
There is a G.I standing in the foreground, and about a quarter of a mile away a line of Chinesse soldiers standing along the crest of Pork Chop. It was one of those large single (two?) page photos that Life used to do.
Can anyone tell me the exact date of this issue.
Thanks.
E-mails okay.

Comments: I am sorry to announce the passing of my father, PFC Ralph Clements, E Co., 2nd Bn., 17th RCT., 7th Inf. Div. on July 11, 2003.
He was well loved and respected by his family, friends and peers and will be sorely missed. My father rarely missed an opportunity to voice his opinion about things, especially those which adversely affected the military or veteran's affairs/benefits. The one exception being his tour in Korea. Unfortunately, It wasn't until his death, that I was able to gain some insight into his time in Korea. I recently, located a memoir that he had written concerning the campaign to secure Jane Russell, Sandy & Hill 598 on October 16th, 1952, in which he describes a 57mm Recoilless Weapons Squad, (Ralph Clements, James Pecanty-Shreveport,LA.,Bob Mossberg-Wash, PA., & Minm Hung Quo-South Korea), to subdue a chinese bunker on Jane Russell and his subsequent return to Ft. Ord, CA and an instructor, prior to his ETS.
If any has information or photographs about this incident or knew my father, please contact me at abnrgclements@aol.com.
Thank You,
R.G. Clements Jr.

Comments: I am looking for any information in regards to my uncle, Ferdinand "Ferdie" Schillinger, Army PFC from North Dakota, who was KIA on Pork Chop Hill 7/6/53. Possibly a member of Easy Company (he's on their roster), but I've been told by another member of Easy that they don't remember him, and that Easy wasn't on the hill that night - Able Company was. I am looking for anyone who might remember him. My father was 3 years old at the time of my uncle's death, and I'm doing some research so those of us who did not know him can understand what sacrifices he made for both our country and the world in general. Thank you.

Comments: Mr. Ernest J. Fannin of Lansdowne, Pa. has been in search of a warrant officer and a jeep driver whom he was riding with when he was injured. The warrant officer said he would put him in for a Purple Heart and for reasons not so selfish Mr. Fannin rejected the W/O's offer of a Purple Heart. They were inspecting faulty ammo at Forward Ammo Dump North of the 38th Parallel around the Iron Triangle Sector. Area came under fire and they were exiting area in a jeep, Mr. Fannin was in the back of the jeep and was hit. This was around Sept or Oct of 1952 and the warrant was in charge of the ammo dump. He mentions Ethiopians, faulty artillery, and he was taken to the forward Aid station by the w/o and the driver. If anyone has this information, knows of this incident and the names of the w/o or driver, please contact me at the email address provided, so I can forward info to Mr. Fannin. Thank you.

Comments: Got number of Charles Kidd off this site yesterday and spoke to him; the first time in 52 years! Just for the record, we were never known as the 17th Infantry Regiment while in Korea.
We were that in Sendai, Japan but they beefed us up with artillery and we went over in September as the 17th RCT . Sat in reserve in Pusan harbor. NKs so close we could see the flashes from our artillery. . Broke their full-court press with 1st Marines and our 31st and 32nd RCTÂ’s landing at Seoul. Then we, 17th RCT, swung around to West coast, landed at Iwon and drove to Hysesanjin on Manchurian border.

Comments: My address is missing from my original request above. Would like to contact anyone from my Uncle Howard Gray's unit. He was from Detroit, and was killed in action July 8th, 1953, probably on Hill 347 as that is where he was 5 days before when he wrote home. We are looking for details of the assult on the place he was. Anyone know him? The family knows absolutely nothing about what happened to him, he was considered missing until March of the following year. My uncle and I are putting together a tribute book about him and would love to know more about what happened.

Comments: I'm writing this for my dad. He was talking about his time in Korea and was wondering if anyone might remember him. He says he arrived in Korea approx. Dec of 1951. I believe he said his first action was at the "Punchbowl". If anyone would like to contact him, please e-mail me at RStam512@aol.com and I will get the message to him. I'm sure he'd enjoy hearing from you. Thanks, Rick Stamps
