Comments: After the cease-fire a war correspondent & photographer came up to my company and took a lot of pictures of my squad and to this day I have not seen any fo those pictures in any magazine. I just found some color slides that I took of the 45th final review and am in the process of getting them printed into regular pictures. I am now 75 yrs old, but can remember that it could really rain in the monsoon season and really get down to about 30 below in winter. If you know any one who was in my outfit I would like to hear from them. Rancher in Texas gkh

SEEKING ANY KOREAN WAR CASUALTY INFO ON EDWARD M. SNIFFEN |

George Sniffen wrote on 2005-01-27 10:14:55.0
Comments: I am the nephew of Edward M. Sniffen who was assigned to the 45th ID and killed in action during the Korean War. Below is the information that I was able to pull from the 45th Inf Div Casualty Navigation Page on the Internet. SNIFFEN EDWARD M Rank=PV2 Serial Number=US29038272 Branch=Infantry Military Occupation Specialty=04745 Year of Birth=31 Race=Malayan State of Residence=HI County of Residence=000 Unit=180th Inf Regt Division=45th Inf Div Type of Unit=Inf Regt Place of Casualty=North Korea Date of Casualty (yymmdd)=52 06 10 Type of Casualty=Killed in Action Detail of Casualty= Group of Casualty=Killed in Action Evacuation Disposition=
Unfortunately, there are some gaps in the info, i.e. how he died; where he specifically was and their mission; etc. Also, he is not Malayan, he was born and raised in Wailuku, Maui with his other 20 brothers and sisters.
I am trying to get as much information as possible about him for my Father (his brother), who was also in the Army stationed in Germany at the time of Edwardss death. As you can imagine he did not know of this until years later when he came home on leave and his mother took him to Edwardss gravesite. She was not given any info on his service or death, so they were unable to really memorialize him. My father tried unsuccessfully to get some of this information from the Army up until he retired from the Army himself. Additionally, during my 24 years of Air Force service I also made numerous requests to the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis with no responses to any of my requests. Any assistance or information you can provide will be greatly appreciated, as my father is one of the last remaining children and would like to do this for his brother. Thank you.

Comments: My father, Ernie Miller, served with the 180th Infantry - First Batallion - Headquarters Co. in Korea. He was only 16 in 1950 when he enlisted. He returned as a Sergeant and was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. My prized possession is the "45th Infantry - Thunderbird Review" yearbook that he received upon his return. Sadly, my father passed away at age 44 due to a heart attack. At the time, I was only 14 and never really talked much about the war with him. I would love to hear from anyone that knew him that could tell me about his duties in Korea. God bless!!!

Comments: Mr. Holloway: Are you referring to the blue square with three arrows forming a triangle within it and an Indian chief's head on top of the square itself (with the chief's head resting on a rectangular, blue and white-striped bar)? If so, you may want to check with the 45th Infantry Division Museum. A 180th friend gave me one, and I believe that's where he got it.

Stapp calls me in and tells me that I,m going home because I,m to young to go to combat and my tour of duty is over; Sept. 20 1951 on my 18th birthday I land back in San Francisco.Never the less I re inlist and go to Germany and serve with the 62nd Highway patrol for almost 2 years; I saw at the beginning of my second enlistment the men comming home from Korea while I was stationed at ft. Ord; I was told about the fire fights and those that didn,t make it; I was proud of them all and to this day am so proud to have been apart of the 45th and so sorry that I wasn,t there with them when they might have needed me.
