Comments: Am looking for anyone from Fox Company, 180th Regiment. My uncle, Reese Smith, was a veteran who served on Christmas Hill. He is getting old and is looking for any information or written works on the battle there in June/July 1953. Please contact me via email if you know where I can get some info on that battle. Also, if anyone knew him, please let me know, and I'll pass whatever messages/contact information on to him.

Comments: My father was in a photo holding a banner with another guy "180 RCT arrives with bayonets sharpened" for the first national guards troops arriving in Korea at Inchon in Dec 51. This was in the Feb 52 issue of the National Guard magazine I think. He was a 24yr old PFC at the time. I am retired army myself and have continued an interest in the 45th Division. While stationed in the pentagon in 78 I worked with a SgtMaj Newberry who was a korean vet of Co B, 180th Regt. When I was assigned to the 1/72d Tank in Korea I attempted to visit my father's area in Korea with the 45th, but found they were mostly within the present DMZ. While an instructor at the MI school in Huachuca I became friends with a Gregg Bond who was with the 45th later in the Gulf War. He died Aug 2000. Shortly before retiring I was assigned with the 3d Inf Div in Aschaffenburg, which it turned out was fought over by the 157th of the 45th in 1945. So I've accumulated some books and photos while stationed there. So, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone that would remember my father from his time with the 45th (1950-52) and also any 45th WWII vet of the Aschaffenburg battle. (I found an inscription on a bridge there that some 45th GI put back in March or Apr45 that says he was from Stillwater OK) I've visited the museum out there 3 times now and am considering talking my father (now in bad health) into going out there this spring since I heard there will be some sort of Korean War Commemoration there April 9th?

He was a machine gunner with a soldier named Art Jarrow from Louisiana. I'm trying to do some research and possibly connect my dad with some fellow vets. My dad is healthy and retired in Vermont. He was on a air cooled Browning 30 cal. with Art Jarrow as assistant gunner. Art was from New Orleans and my dad was from New York city. He was at the castle around the blowout on May Day. Comments: I am trying to locate information or anyone who might remember my Dad, Carl Richardson. He served in Korea from 1951(or 52) until 1953. My dad does not talk about the war and I have been able to get little information on his unit. I have heard him mention the Thunderbirds, 45th HQ HQ Company C 180th Division. But other than that very little else. My Dad has mentioned in the past that he would like to find anyone from his division. The only name he remembers is Smith and there were two - one was a commanding officer. One of the two Smith's was also from Arkansas. I would like to find out as much as I can about my Dad's time in Korea and the people he served with. I am a history teacher and will be teaching about the Korean war to my 9th grade class. Our history books do a great injustice to the Korean War and I want my students to know as much about this "forgotten war" as I can give them. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. I have listed my email address as my Dad does not have a computer.

Comments: Gerald Cady passed from this earth in November 2000. The desk atop which I write this is filled with B Company rosters, 180th Infantry Regiment casualty data bases and xerox copies of the "45th Division News" (circa '52-'53) that Mr. Cady was generous to share with me. In his periodic packages, Mr. Cady was also thoughtful enough to send along Thunderbird stickers (one of which is stuck to my truck's rear window), a Warrior Regiment pin and a Yakima, Washington apple pin, all of which were greatly appreciated. Mr. Cady was a gruff, no-nonsense veteran who loved his country and his fellow Baker Company infantrymen. His dedication to the memory of the living and dead from his unit who risked all for their country makes me exceedingly proud to state that my father served with him. Gerald Cady was a credit to his country. His arrival at the roll call of the departed was undoubtedly greeted with a high, proud trumpet call. I thank him for his service. God bless you, Mr. Cady. We will meet again.

Comments: I am writing this in regards to my father, John E. Morton, I believe he was often just called Mort. He came into I Company as a replacement in late May, 1952. He was assigned to be a radioman. Of the few men he got to know well enough to remember their names, most were KIA, either on Hill 200 and Hill 255(Pork Chop) in early June, or on June 13 & 14 during the battle for Outpost Eerie and Hill 191. Dad was seriously WIA during this battle himself.
One of the men Dad remembers went by the nickname of Short Round. The last Dad knew before being evacuated off the hill in the early morning of June 14, Short Round was still alive. Dad is pretty sure he was from Tennessee. I am hoping to find out his actual name. I also would like to know if he survived the battle and the war. I would like to fill in the blanks, so to speak, for Dad.
The other man Dad remembers was his Lieutenant, William Slavins, under whom he was serving as a part of a radio communications team. If Lt. Slavins happens to see this, feel free to contact me if you'd like and I can pass anything along to my father. That goes for anyone else who may happen to remember Dad as well.
Thanks for your help. My respects and highest regards to all of those who served.

Comments: I have letters from my Dad with Co.M. 180th inf. 7th Army France from Oct44 to Dec44. Prior to this I have a few that have Co.D inf. Italy. I know he was injured after Dec.44 and sent to the Army Air Core until the remainder of the war. After my Dad passed away in early 80's I had a box of his war stuff that I am now able to display, Metals, patches, photo's, ect. I can't find much information while he was in France. Does anyone have any information on this unit or know of any links. I would appreciate it.

Comments: MY BIG BROTHER. Being a veteran of Vietnam myself, I just want my brother, if he sees this to know that in front of his peers how much I appreciate what he and his comrades did in Korea, and that I love them all very much.

Comments: This is my father. He is ill at the present time and we talk as much as he feels the need. I am his daughter and the one with the computer. I am hoping this gets him stirred up about doing something besides sitting at home and feeling ill. If anyone who may have served with him would like to visit, please e-mail me, I will get him the messages and replies.
