Comments: My dad entered the service Oct. 18, 1950 and was sent to Korea in Jan.11,1952 through Aug.13,1952 and thats about all I know. He pass away when he was 54 years old and now I'll be 54 this month and I would like to meet some of his friends that he was in Korea with. I have some old pictures but none have any names on them. I'm still trying to get dads discharge papers which would maybe help a little more. Thank you, Bill Bauer
Keywords: Only thing I know for sure is my dad played fiddle in a band and they all had matching shirts. They also recorded some records which you had to set the record player on 78 speed.

Comments: I really just would have loved to have met my only uncle on my moms side of the family. Heard wonderful stories about you, You were too young to leave us. You stood up for what you believed in, but you ended up taking a fall for what you believed in I am guessing you wouldn't have changed a thing! Love Maureen

Anyone remember SFC Jerry Groom |

Jerry Groom wrote on 2008-08-13 21:11:00.0
Comments: My father was S.F.C. Jerry Groom. He was in the 40th infantry Division, 223rd regiment. I believe he also fought at 'Heartbreak Ridge' 'Sandbay Castle Hill,' and the 'Punchbowl.' in or around October 1952. He passed away in 1993, but I'm interested in hearring any stories about him or his company. He would not talk about the war, I hear he was in a very dangerous group with a high casualty rate, but know little else. If you knew him I would like to hear any memories you might be able to convey to me. This would mean a lot to me as I idolized my father. He was one hell of a man. They don't make them like that any more. Thank you for your time. Jerry Groom II

Earl Powell was my father (he died of luekemia in 1970). I have been told he spent time in a tank, but not sure in what capacity. He was from Indiana, and was promoted to corporal in March 1953, discharged in 1960.
