Comments: Iam hoping there is still someone out there that served with my brother from about March through October of 1951. The information I have is that he was killed at a battle at Satae-ri or Talleylong, Korea on October 24, 1951. His picture is posted in the Korean War Project Remembrance. It would be nice to hear from someone that knew him and share with his family details of his life. The day he joined the Army was the last time his family saw him.

Comments: My uncle, James Bleier, had his right leg from knee down blown off while attempting to take Jane Mansfield Hill on 10/23/52. As he was pulling himself down the hill he came across another wounded GI that could not move. He grabbed the GI's collar and procided to rotate between pulling him and himself down the hill where an armored tank truck discovered them and took them to safety. Of the 50 guys in the attempt, they were the only ones to servive. He was awarded the brozne star for his efforts. I have been trying to gather information on him to put in a scrapbook for the family and have been unable to locate Jane Mansfield Hill, does anyone know anything about it?

His mother is also still alive (94 yrs) and lives with his younger sister. From what I remember from over the years, the soldier that murdered my uncle was sent to Leavenworth (I believe it was a life sentence). I think he has actually written my grandmother a letter expressing his remorse.

Comments: Looking for any info or pictures. My father, PFC Harold "Bud" Richard, served in the 32nd Infantry regiment of the 7th Division in WWII.
He died in 1982 before we could have real conversations about the war. He brought back momentos but those were lost over the years. We've gone to the army records center in St. Louis and found that ALL of his records were lost in a tragic high-rise fire there in 1972.
He was a drummer in a family band and may have played drums with some folks while in the service.

Comments: I am the daughter of Charles Humphries, who witnessed the murder of Captain Stormy Garr in 1970 by another soldier. This incident has caused my father great grief over the years and we would like to put closure to this. I'm sure many of you understand the mental anguish that something like this could cause to a young soldier that was drafted in, and the impact it can have on the rest of his life.
We are having great difficulty finding any information on this incident. No records, no family, etc. If you have any information or know anything about this please respond. I would greatly appreciate it.

I am looking for any information I can find about my father's brother. His name was Richard D. Collage. He was killed in action in Korea. His remains were never recovered. I have visited the National Cemetery of the Pacific in Hawaii.
His name is listed among Korean War KIA's. The marker indicates he was a member of the 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. I believe he volunteered for duty in Korea while he was serving with the Berlin Brigade in Germany.
I do not know the date or location of his death. I would appreciate any information I could get about this regiment or how to conduct further research.

LOOKING FOR ANY ONE WHO KNEW MY NOW DECEASED FATHER... |
 |
 |
Jean Marie Iannitti wrote on 2007-12-01 20:51:58.0
Comments: I lost my Dad a few years ago, than my Mom not 9 months later. I am their only child/women. I finally obtained some of my Dad's medals. I'm currently researching his "Silver Star" medal he was to have received for his bravery on Pork Chop Hill. My Dad spoke a lot about Kentucky. I also know he used to chase after awols too. He saw a lot of action but only spoke of some silly events. I only know of a couple of horrible events since he wouldn't speak of them. I am quite ill too. I'm loaded w/tumors, I'm now 51. I won't rest until I get my Father's "Silver Star" for him. He would have never said his commanding officer put in for it if it wasn't true. From what I understand my Dad scouted "the hill" for the other soldiers...my Dad was a Sgt. I believe he was in the 32nd infantry (??) I don't have all the info right at hand now...I just happened upon this site. At this very moment I'm looking at a photo of my Dad in is Army uniform. My Dad was a very dark haired and handsome italian. He was until the day he died. I believe all the memories finally got to him and he stopped taking important medication and killed himself due to this "forgotten war." I know his best friend was blown to bits right by my Dad's side by a mortar. My Dad has a "sharp shooter" medal, the "bronze star", the "purple heart" and other medals.... He went to camp Breckinridge (forgive my spelling).... My Dad would only (usually) tell me just some funny stories of cutting a can so when a fellow soldier went to pee in his sleeping bag, he got all wet...my Dad was a joker and had a great sense of humor. He was and always will be my Hero! I'll submit futher info as soon as can...more on his "outfit, etc.". I probably won't live all that long myself, but I can't go until I get my Dad's "Silver Star" that is justly his. I didn't even know he had the other medals until I researched with a Senator's office here in Rhode Island. They said there was a fire in 1973 and many of my Father's records were burned. I "MUST" get the info regarding this medal (Silver Star) or I will not rest even in my death. Both my Parents to me are hero's. My Mom had five different cancer's and died in my arms after 3 1/2 days in hospice. My dad just dropped dead in our kitchen. I found him to late to revive him (I had some medical training) and knew he would be brain dead....that was not my Father. My Dad and his brother and their father owned greenhouses...they grew wholesale flowers to sell. My Dad joined the Army to get away from his Father. My Father ended out to be a cripple due to his injuries of the Korean Conflict and couldn't live like that.....GOD BLESS YOU ALL....I LOVE YOU ALL!!!
Keywords: My Dad's name is Carmine Iannitti. I believe he was called "Jessie James" as a nickname. I'm not too sure of the unit...will do more research. My Dad was in the battle of Pork Chop Hill. He has numerous medals of which I just found out about.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who knew Ronald J. Palmer and was with him in Dec. 1950. He was declared MIA and KIA when he never returned after the war. How can someone just disappear and not show up in any of the prison camps? My heart is broken.I will not forget you Uncle Ron.
Does anyone have a picture that I may have of Ronald J. Palmer in uniform or in civilian clothes?

Comments: For the past year and a half I have been researching the Chosin campaign. I was originally asked to write a script about the Marine breakout on the West side. But the more I researched, the more I came to realize that the Army's role has been largely ignored or minimized (except for the great book East of Chosin). I have since switched gears and have started focusing on the story of Task Force MaClean/Faith. Appleman's book gives a great picture of the overall action but it is lacking in the personal side. I am now attempting to develop an idea of what the commanders were like (especially LTC Faith), the men of the unit and the overall conditions during the campaign. I want to know what the men were feeling early on, in the middle and during the breakout. And I especially would like to know how survivors felt days, weeks, months and years later.
If anyone would like to contribute to this project, please e-mail me.

I am trying to find ANYONE who knew him, served with him, etc. I promised my mother before her death that I would do everything possible to try to find out how her brother died. Have been told he drowned, have been told he just disappeared, have been told he was hit by a sniper. Have been told yes there witnesses, have been told no there were not witnesses. His body was never recovered.

Hopefully someone may remember either my uncle or one of the men listed below. In addition, I'm trying to compile a company roster during 1951, including, but not limited to, the 3rd platoon, so any help there would be appreciated too!!

Mitchell died during that battle. McRoy was a grenadier and was wounded in the legs. He served in Korea 1952-1953 and passed away in June, 2006.
My father would never talk about his experiences on Pork Chop Hill. I am trying to find out more about what he went through.

I am going to be 40 years October 25 of 2006, and I still don't know who my father is or was. My family seems to think that not talking about him easies thier pain but not mine. My father is only a figure of my imagination to my brother he is nothing as my mother was 6 months pregnant of him when he died. I only hope that some one who knew him and can tell me who I am or who he was. I know that I am him but who is he. Whoever answers this message is a beautiful person because in my heart my dad was and always will be me. A friend of his in my heart will always be a friend of mine.

INFORMATION ON CPL WILLIAM G. 'BILL' HAMMERLE |
 |
 |
Thomas A. Bowman wrote on 2006-09-15 11:55:16.0
Comments: I am seeking any information on my uncle, CPL William George "Bill" Hammerle. He was KIA on 1 December, 1950 during the breakout from the Chosin Reservoir. He was in the 1st Battalion, Company C, 32rd Infantry.
I have read an account of the breakout and I learned that his company was put into the lead. At one point during the breakout there was firing on the column of trucks by the enemy. Marine Fighter-Bombers flying overhead attempted to knock out the enemy, but they dropped a load of napalm on the lead vehicles.
I believe my uncle was killed by this "friendly fire." It was reported that many of the group were killed instantly or badly wounded from this accident. After this the breakout disolved into small groups of men just trying to get to safety. The organized attempt to leave fell apart.
I would like to hear from any veteran who was there or any family members who would like to share information. My mother, CPL Hammerle's sister passed away April 1, 2006, she never knew what had happened to her brother. I shared the information I discovered about the "friendly fire" incident with her, but I would like to know more about it.
Please contact me if you knew CPL Hammerle and/or if you have any information about the action on 1 December 1950.
Thank you.

Comments: My friend's father was assigned to "K" Co 32nd Inf in Korea from 1953-1955. His name was Cpl. Wallace Mosel. He passed away a few months ago. We are assembling a display case for his burial flag & awards. I am looking for the proper insignia for his regiment. I have found a shoulder patch for the 7 Division. Is there an additional shoulder patch or other significant insignia for the 32nd or for "K" Co? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You SMSgt Nancy Smith

Comments: I recently found amongst my Grandmother's belongings a letter from my father to my Grandmother after the battle of Pork Chop Hill. In his letter he included a copy of the "Buccaneer", a daily newspaper distributed to the troops. There was an article about a medic that he sent home. He stated that this medic was amazing and and that everything they said about him was true and then some. I'm just curious who this medic was/is. His name is not mentioned and my father didn't mention his name either. Does anyone recall who he is? They article was in the 18 July 1953 "Buccaneer" (2176 days in Korea-printed on it), distributed to the men of the 32nd 7th 'Love Co.' and probably the others as well. I'll write exactly what it says since I can't seem to cut and paste it here...... ------- MEDIC SETS UP "AID STATION"
An heroic medic of the 32nd Infantry "Buccaneer" Regiment walked out under enemy artillery fire to care for the wounded during a recent attack on a 7th Division outpost.
Though his company had secured most of the hill enemy fire made it impossible for him to evacuate the stricken men. He set up his own aid station in a bunker and for three hours, though Chinese rounds were falling around him, he treated the men.
1st Lt. WIlliam C. Moore, Platoon leader said, "I saw him risk his life to load two seriously wounded men on a personnel carrier though rounds were falling around him continuously. When he wasn't treating the wounded he was carrying ammunition up to the fighting men and cleaning rifles which had been made useless by the rain and mud."
Sgt. Donald E. Cathron who was with the aid man at the beginning of the fight said, "I crawled up that hill, he walked up it. I never saw a man so fearless in the face of death. I left him about 9:00 o'clock and when I returned three hours later he was still working."
A little after nine the Buccaneer medic was attempting to bring a seriously wounded man into the bunker when a mortar round exploded near him, breaking his arm and cutting him about the face.
Refusing evacuation in the safety of the personnel carrier the 32d Infantry medic walked almost a mile down the hill to the regular aid station saying that there were men more seriously wounded than he who needed evacuation. --------------------------------------------------
I realize there are other heroic stories like this, but this guy made a huge impression on my dad. I thought others might be interested in the story and I would love to know who he was.
Cynthia Mintz-daughter of Robert S. Mintz "Love Co."

Comments: I have recently learned that my first cousin, Charles Larry Scott, 20 years old, from Bedford, VA died on 12/2/1950 at the Chosin Reservoir. His body was never recovered. Assumed during the withdrawal it was left behind. He was a member of "C" Company, 1st Batt 32nd Inf
There are 7 first cousins left of this great kid. He was an only child. Frankly, we never knew exactly what happened to him - only that he was reported missing in action on 12/2/50 and declared dead 12/31/53. I saw a newspaper article recently, called the 800 number and received good but very general information about where he was when killed.
Is there anyone out there who remembers him? If so, can anyone add anything to our memories of him - no matter what they are?
He was just a kid - 20 years old - but he was one of us, loved, and his memory treasured. Anything you can add would be appreciated.
To any of you who fought for us in that terrible battle - thank you. God bless you. We are in your debt forever for your service.

Comments: To the Grandson looking for anyone that might remember ELMER WILLIAMS: I'm curious if Mr. Williams is from the Severna Park, MD area. My father, Robert Mintz, had a korean War buddie that lived near us when I was young. I only recall that I called him either Mr. Williams or Mr. Williamson. Mr. Williams was also in Love Co. We moved from MD about 1974 and we lost touch with Mr. Williams after that. My father passed away in 1977.
To anyone that might know: Is there some place I can find a roster for 32nd inf, Love Co.? Also is there a listing of the major assignments of Love Co? ( I'm sure the Army has one, but do they give family members access to it? ) Can someone please tell me the significance of the ascott (scarf) with the emblem on it I've seen on my dad in some of his Korean War Photos.
I would also like to give a big THANK YOU to DON MAXELY for taking the time to write about that event with K and L Co.'s on Pork Chop Hill. Little bits of information like that is precious to those of us who miss our Heros.
Thank you! Cindi Mintz O'Conor

Comments: I RECENTLY ATTENDED THE FAMILY UPDATE MEETING FOR THE MIA'S, POW'S AND KIA IN SAN DIEGO. I'VE ATTENDED SEVERAL OF THESE MEETINGS WHEN THEY'RE HELD NEAR BY. I DIDN'T FIND OUT ANYTHING NEW, BUT WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A MEETING OF THE 32ND. REGT. NEAR BY, SO MY SON AND I WENT, BUT THEY WERE ON A BREAK. WE DID TALK TO A COUPLE OF MEN AND THEY CONTACTED ME LATER WITH TWO NAMES. ONE WAS COL.(RET)GEORGE JUSKALIAN AND THE OTHER COL.(RET)ROBERT GOLLOSOV. THEY'VE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH ME AND TOLD ME ALL THEY REMEMBERED. COL. GOLLOSOV REMEMBERS ASSIGNING RICHARD TO CO "C". I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE INFORMATION THE'VE GIVEN ME, AND ANY MORE WOULD BE MORE THAN WELCOME.

I would also appreciate information on his company, battles Love Company was included on, any memiors. I am researching 1st BN 32nd Infantry for a tactical analysis paper, reference the Chosin Reservoir. I have specific interest in C co 32nd Infantry because my Grandfather, CPL Carroll Burgess, served in it - although possibly not at Chosin. I do not know if he was in Korea before Dec. 1950. I am searching for any veterans or others with information about the battalion or my grandfather. My email addresses are benjamin.boekestein@us.army.mil, and bcboek02@yahoo.com. My phone number is (270) 498-0994. This is of interest for my paper and also my family, my grandfather died in 1959 and not much is known of his military service.
Very Respectfully, Ben Boekestein CPT, INF

Comments: Looking back over the years and remembering Korea saddens me to think that we had to lose so many men. Here we are over fifty years later and we are involved in another conflict. A Korea veteran has never complained about his service in Korea to my knowledge. Yet he has been cast aside as if he never existed or was ever in a war. News Media will and have been comparing wars. There is no justification in comparing one conflict from the other. I am sure the men who fight these wars will agree with me that any war there are no real winners. There are only victors who by the blood of the soldiers who lost their lives can we claim a victory. But what about that soldier who's blood we are speaking? Don't forget the other soldier who's blood was shed. It is a sad fact that there are no winners when both sides record the deaths of the men involved in any war. There are no winners just loosers and it is always sad to see the list of our dead in the news every day. I have always tried to keep from telling war experiences to the members of my family. It has been many years and I remember clearly many of my experiences in Korea. I wouldn't consider them any more dangerous than my buddies. If you want to know how I feel about danger in Korea let me explain. I have always said that anyone and I mean anyone who set foot on that peninsula during those three years was in "DANGER" and you didn't have to be on a front line position. Korera was a hostile land with it's terrain and it's crazy weather. Not to mention a land so far back in time It was difficult to survive for our men who lived in the twentieth century and were thrust into the past. Korea at the time had no paved roads no and electric was sparce and the people who lived in the small villages farmed. Not much in the way of what we were used to back home. I am glad that I served and made it home safe. What I am not happy about is the guys that we left behind. I will never forget them until the day we meet again I am sure of that. Comments: Is there anyone who remembers or took part in the assault on Star Hill which was in front of outpost Harry, sometime during July or August 1952. I believe this was an all volunteer ranger unit organized only from men in the 32nd regiment. I believe they were called Dodd's rangers and the time that was required was 6 weeks in this outfit, and you were then elligible for rotation home(if you survived). This assault took place around 12-1 p.m. and involved about 2 squads from this unit who made the assault, which was supported by artillery and men who were on outpost Harry. The outcome of this assault unfortunately resulted in the rangers having been hit with very heavy Chinese mortor, artillery and small arms fire to withdraw. I witnessed this event. If anyone took part in this event or has knowledge of this outfit, would like to hear from you.

My nine month Combat Tour in Korea in 1950! |

JAMES R. Keith wrote on 2005-05-27 00:00:00.0
Comments: My first enlistment in the US Army was in 1946, for 18 months spent in Rome, Italy. Upon termination of this enlistment, I re-enlisted in the US Army Reserve for three years. I was recalled to Active Duty on 21 Oct. 1950, as a result of the, so called, "Korean Police Action;" reporting to Ft. Bragg, NC. On 21 Nov 1950, after a short refresher course at Ft. Hood, TX, in; inter alia, "Open Field Running;" hopefully, while advancing to the north and not while "Burning a path to the Rear to Change My Undies" and "Bayonet Tactics!" On 21 Dec. 1950, I shipped from Sasebo, Japan to Pusan, Korea, where I was first introduced to enemy fire. After nine months of combat, I became eligible for rotation back to the States; which is where the "Open Field Running Refresher Course" had came in handy earlier! As - when I received the word that I was going home, for discharge at Ft. Bragg, NC, on 9 Oct. 1951, I took-off south in a dead run, like a stripped-fannied ape, before anyone could change my rotation date; shedding my combat gear and clothing as I ran, from my Unit in the field, to the home bound rotation ship, birthed at the Port of Pusan!
Keywords: "Charlie Company" was known as the "Cold Steel Company," because of the constant fixing of bayonets in their daily offensives against the hords of North Korean and Chinese to the north!

Keywords: BATTLE OF HAMAN PASS/February 1951
I am trying to find out information about my father, Leo Lupton, a master sergeant who was killed in the Korean War, Feb. 4, 1951. He was from North Carolina. I was only 3 years old when he died and I have very little information about him other than a newspaper obituary. He was commended for "meritorious service" July 5-Nov. 2, 1950 for courage and leadership at the battle of Haman Pass. Newspaper said, "Sergeant Lupton held his men in position the face of fanatic enemy attacks until the wounded men of the company could be evacuated." I do not know where my father was killed either. I am trying to put together a memoir of his letters based on the history of his involvement in the Korean War.
If anyone knew my father, or could tell me anything about the involvement of Company B, 19th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, please answer.
Thanks, Don Lupton Katy, Texas

After all is said and done I wouldn't trade one mimute of my service for all the tea in China. Out that mess I have made so many dear friends. The only problem is time has drained our energy and we are slowly becomming extinct. God bless all the men and women who set foot in Korea for one reason or another.
