Korean Veteran seeks info on Med Records in Hakata

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Rene Saucedo wrote on 2008-05-27 18:50:43.0

Comments: My father is a living Korean Veteran who contracted hemmhoragic fever but was in a confusing situation. He was treated and RTD. He was on leave in Tokyo, and when he tried to return, he was late for his plane because of some issue with a taxi. He missed his flight, and his plane went down with all onboard killed.

His records were very scrambled, and he was listed as having contracted hemmoroids, rather than hemmoragic fever. He may be allowed better disability if he can somehow prove what happened to him. What I hope for is some slim hope that records of Korean Conflict veterans are at the Sasebo Hakata, Japan. If anyone has contact information for this hospital in Japan, I'd appreciate it. I can only seem to find tourist info for the city. Thank you for knowing his story.

If you knew him, or know of him; I'm looking for things like when he joined the 38th, what battalion/company he was in, etc. He passed away a few years ago, and I'm trying to put together a bit of a history of his army years.

LOOKING FOR JEFF M. OR BUTLER

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
jeremias werner wrote on 2008-03-16 10:47:53.0

Comments: I'm searching for a black soldier/veteran who was stationed in 1977 (probably at Gerszewski Barracks or Smiley Barracks) in Karlsruhe/Germany/Europe. He is tall (approx 6'5") and has a large scar on his chest. He used to tell my mom that he has the scar from a fight with a tiger. I don't know if the tiger-story is true. It's possible that his name is Jeff Butler and that he was PFC with the 517th Maintenance Company in 1977. Butler was quite involved in those so called old stock car race track. It's also possible that his name's Jeff or Jim Truesdale (could be Tuesdale as well; other spellings possible). Do you have any idea how I can get in contact with Jeff Butler (Truesdale, etc.), or who could know about this??? I was told that the following persons (all of them stationed about 1977 in the south of Germany) could know about the whereabouts of my dad: -Randy Buel (former MSG MP,), -Frank (he's from California) -and probably another soldier who is a nativ american (my aunt told me that as far as she can remember, my dad and this nativ american guy used to know each other) I was told it might be easyer to locate a nativ american, even though i have no name of him at all, since there were very litle amount of nativ american soldiers in 1977 in south Germany).

this is Jeremias a son of a father he never met in his 29 years of live. A son who would love to know his (black) family, not more and not less.

truly, Jeremias Werner

Comments: F Company relieved the British Commonwealth force on The Hook on 28 January 1953. Lt Price was my CO. Cpl David Colby was killed by a Chinese mortar round on 4 February. Pvt Raymond Childs was similarly killed on 12 February as we were coming off The Hook, relieved by the 3rd Battalion. I was wounded on 21 March in a night firefight with Chinese by the Samichon River in the Netherlands Sector. The Dutch swept the area and brought us back to the MLR. I was treated at the Norwegian MASH and evacuated to Camp Hakata Hospital in Fukuoka, Japan (where I met Reiko, my wife of 51 years). I was RTD in Korea til war's end, dodging only a few artillary rounds.

Comments: I was the platoon leader of the 81 platoon, D/l/38 during the early spring, summer and early fall of 1952. The members of the platoon did such an outstanding job that the Bn CO offerred me command of a rifle company and I was the junior first Lt in the Bn. The guys seemed to be able to work all day and shoot missions all night. i believe that nearly every member of the platoon deserved the Silver Star for their preparation for and participatiion in the defense of Pork Chop Hill on the night of September 18, 1952. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of any of these guys, please contact me. One of the members was able to contact me a few years ago and I was able to get his records updated with a bronze star with v device and a purple heart. i am hoping to get his bronze star with v device upgraded to a Silver Star. The guys seemed to just believe they were doing their job. However, without their continuous fire suport we would more than likely lost Pork Chop and the Chinese could entered the mouth of a valley with very little between them and Seoul. Thanks, Bob rogers

Comments: My father is Charles Dick. At the time of his service he was from KY. He would like to find information on some men with whom he served. In 1949, he was stationed in Ft. Lewis, WA then sent to Korea. He was with Service Co. until December of 1950. Then he was transferred to E Co. until his capture on May 18, 1951. He is especially interested in finding a man whose last name was Chico from Washington state and a Pritt (James?) from Beckley, WV. If anyone has any information on these men or if you remember my father, please contact me. He would like to hear from you.

Comments: I am doing this search for my dad who served in Korea, in the 2nd armored division, 38th infantry, company M. He was in the motorpool and was stationed on the front when the war ended. A group of soldiers from his unit were killed only days before the war ended. You might remember my dad as the person who built a large Santa Claus figure for the company out of papermache and wire. He is in ill health right now and it would be great if he could get in touch with some survivors of the war. It is only recently that he has even shared any details of his experiences in Korea. Loosing those fellow soldiers was a pain he carried silently for many years. The phone number given is mine, I would be happy to talk to any who knew him and pass along your information to him. Please leave a message on my voice mail. Email is the best way to contact me, but make sure the subject of the message indicates who you are. Thank you.

Comments: Looking for information on my brother CPL. William Thurmond Rowland. KIA Feb. !2, 1951. The family never received his dogtags or personal belongings. Does anyone have any information? He was from McNairy, Tennessee at the time. Some of the information that we did get said he was buried in Korea, but then his body was shipped back to the states and we had a funeral here in his hometown. He was buried at Campground Cementery,in Tippah County MS. Our mother is still living at 98, and she has always wondered if he was really killed or perhaps a POW. Her days are numbered and her health is declining.
