Keywords: I was stationed (or maybe I should say co- located) with the 547th Engr Co (Float Bridge) at Camp Mercer, Korea from July 1963 to April 1964. I was with USACDK (US Army Chemical Depot Korea) and we occupied the two warehouses on the right and the one on the left as you came in the main gate. We occupied the "new" ciderblock barracks just below the water tower at the back gate (which was always locked) and had the orderly room on the other end of the building from that of the 547th which was closest to the fence-line. In March/April 1964 USACDK moved to Camp Carroll in Waegwan (reason Chemical Depot was too close to DMZ, or so they said). We dug a pit with a bulldozer - doned rubber suits and gas masks and dump every imaginable chemical - hundreds of gallons if not more - into the ground on a knoll behind the second storage warehouse on the right. Yet, when I returned to Korea and revisited Camp Mercer in 1978, I saw no noticeable change in the surrounding country side plant-life-wise which I found surprising. Camp Mercer had not changed at all from 1964 to 1978-80 when I returned althought the village outside the gate had. I still have a company crest of the 547th Engr Float Bridge company, tokens we used in the slot machines at the club and lots of photos. I remember the only Special Forces Det in Korea was co-located with us. I am trying to locate guys with USACDK including SSG Earle Foster, Jim Sparks, lst Lt Kem (US Army), and of the MPs including Everly, Grulke, Spears, Connear, Barnes and others. Also would like to contact anyone else there in the 60's. More to come. Ray Bows, M/Sgt retired (Pvt-2 to SP4 back then)

Comments: I was stationed in Korea in May 62 and assigned to Hq Co, 44th ECB at Ascom. I have many fond memories and photos of my comrades at that time. My only accomplishment while there was to design and see built the nine hole miniature golf course. I have lost contact with most of my buds'. I have found that Ernie Etheredge has passed some years ago. Tom Wallake was living in the San Diego area and Dalasio was somewhere in the north east. Hopefully some of them will see this and contact me. We all belong to the "Royal Order of the Busted Butt".

Like to find members of the 44th Engineer Const Bn. The battalion
is still on active duty in Korea. I was cadre of original Bn at
Ft Bragg, then to Ft McClellan, Alabama then to west coast
sailing to Fuchinobe, Japan and finally Inchon, September, 1950.
We have an organized 44th Engr Bn Association with 230 members
gathering together for annual reunions at various parts of the country.
Sept '97 we'll be in Charleston, SC. The seven new members since last
Sept. have remarked that they spent years trying to find out if the 44th
was organized. This would be another source.
A good contact is our founder:

I'm and my father, Foy Garris,
was left for dead during the Korean Conflict and when I
bought my computer, I started looking for his old army
buddies on the Internet. Within no time, a long lost
friend who had been searching for him for all these
years found him (he never believed he was dead; Dad
was sent to Japan for five months to recover). Dad
would love to hear from others that served in the 44th
Engineers, 10 Corp during 1950-1951.
