Comments: Was a member of D Btry from preparation to depart Ft Bliss until Dec '51. Cpt Richard Fink was the CO, Cpt Ingersol the XO, LT's Scott and Mullen was my platoon commanders. Came home a MSgt and made WOJG in Dec 51. Fond, but cold memories from our stay up north.

Comments: Served at suwon, k13 airbase my m19 squad was off base at the southend of the runway on top of a large hill with a korean village next to our compound. I was on gaurd duty the night a korean girl tried to come into our compound by crawling thru the fence and she set off a trip flare that took her left arm off at the elbow, If you can remember this you were there when I was and I would like to hear from you. ted

Comments: My dad was involved with Operation Plumb Bob during the summer of 1957. I have two photos of a group from D Btry 495th AAA Msl (Nike) boarding an aircraft dated 4 June 1957 at El Paso International Airport. My dad was not in the photo (Robert (Sam) Romaine) since he drove his car to Neveda. I would be interested in hearing from anyone concerning Plumb Bob or perhaps from Red Canyon (NM) that remembers my dad. If you would like to read his journal for Plumb Bob go to: http://home.rr.com/romainenet, and click on the "about" tab. If you are in one of the posted photos let me know so I can add you to the caption. I would also like any photos showing my dad during this time frame.

Comments: My memories of Korea are that it was all black, gray and white and void of any color. Strange. I don't remember any color. We were stationed on top of a mountain and for the most part, with the exception of R & R, rarely ventured away during the week. Maintenance schedules kept me buy during the week but we had week ends off. On week ends, I remember throwing my carbine over one shoulder and my new Bosley camera over the other and hiking alone down the mountain to Pusan to take pictures. I never saw any action nor did I ever fire my weapon. The cease fire agreement was signed when I was aboard ship headed for Korea.

It is very hard to find any info for units that were not organic to a
Division. Such as the 50th AAA Aw Bn (SP). which was active at the
Inchon Invasion, the battle for Seoul, the Iwon Invasion, the drive to the
Yalu and the help it provided in extracting the Marines from the Chosin
Area.
This unit was attached to the 1st Marine Div., the 7th Inf Div., to the
3rd Inf Div., and then finally to 8thArmy, Yet it is never given mention
in any listings pertaining to these Divisions.
Stanton in his book titled ,"America's Tenth Legion" wrote a short
paragraph about the great effectiness of the 50ths twin 40 Bofors and
the Quad 50 cal.guns and their annilization of the enemy on Hill 1081
at Chiphung-ni.
Other than this short paragraph, it is very difficult to find any info
about the units, battles it served in. The Divisions it was attached
to, rarely ever mention this non-organic unit.
Sincerly,
Bob Matis
