Comments: My father served in the Korean war and my understanding is that he also was at Pork Chop Hill. I was only 8 years old when he passed away so I never had the privilege to talk to him about his war experience. Was wondering if you might have met him. His name was Jose Angel Cruz, also know as "Gelo", pronounced as "Helo" and he was born in Cidra, PR but was living in the San Juan area (Rio Piedras or Santurce) at the time he was drafted. Unfortunately I have no other information about him, but would like to get his military record if possible.

Comments: I am a Korean and Vienam Veteran, I was wounded crossing the Imjin River. I would like to know if there is anyone who remembers the crossing of the Imjin River by the 2nd Bn. of the 65th Inf. Regiment many puertoricans were killed in that battle when the chinese openned a Dam and the water covered the bridges we were crossing thus killing a lot of members of the 65th. Some of us managed to get accross and held the position until reinforcements arrived.

Comments: Dear Borinqueneers,
It is with great pain in my heart, soul and being that I am notifying you of my father's death. He died on March 19, 2008 waiting for that SOMEONE who knew him,who was there in Korea with him and could testify of his heroism. He was ONLY given the Silver Star because of prejudice and descrimination against Latinos and African-Americans.
ONLY one person recognized my father for his heroism, Brigadier General William W. Harris who wrote in his book, "Puerto Rico's Fighting 65th U.S. Infantry, From San Juan to Chorwan" , page 131, and had the honor to pin the Silver Star on my Dad. My father was even given a Presidental Citation from the President of Korea at the time, Sigmund Rhee, but not even that helped with getting the Congressional Medal of Honor.
ROLL CALL: Gilberto Calderon Luis E. Maldonado-Matos German Oyola Armando Rosa
WHERE ARE YOU?
Please, if you are still alive, I need your help to testify for my father's heroism so he can get that Honor and Medal that he very well earned and DESERVES. Does ANYONE REMEMBER or SAW what my father did to save his squad, disregarding his own safety and only given the SILVER STAR? PLEASE COME FORWARD AND STAND UP FOR YOUR BORINQUENEER BROTHER.
I have written to President Bush, only to pass the paperwork along to someone else. The Army said there was no other proof. We flew to El Paso, Texas twice in hopes of getting to talk to Congressman Reyes, unfortunately he was not there those two times but they only noted our wishes and never did anything to help us, yet he supposed to help our veterans.
I wrote to the Inspector General of the Army and he said the case was "closed". Senator K. Hutchinson was supposed to help us, but "they" wrote back twice with no news. The Congressman of Lewisville, Texas "passed the buck" too. I just don't know who to turn to next.
NOW DO YOU KNOW WHY THEY CALL IT THE FORGOTTEN WAR?
Because NO ONE cares after all these men exposed their lives to fight and keep America Free. My father didn't have to go, yet he chose to quit school and proudly fight for the United States at only 17 years old.
I PROMISED my father on his death bed, that I WOULD GET THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR FOR HIM.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS?

Comments: My father, Roberto Luis Colo'n (pronounced like Cologne), passed away last April. In the aftermath, I have aquired his discharge papers. These papers answered questions that he would never talk about when I was growing up. I am looking for any Korean War veteran who knew my dad. He served from Sept. of '51 to May of '53. I know that he lost at least one very close friend who died in his arms in combat. (This I learned from my mother years ago.) I just found out for the first time in my life that he was awarded 2 bronze stars, a combat infantryman bandge, and 2 other decorations. If you are a Korean War Veteran who knew my dad (or a child of a vet who knew him) please email me. I would like to learn more of what my father and his comrads went through.
Thanks. Robert

Comments: I am also a veteran and a proud Puertorican. I served in Korea but, not during the war. My time was during the late 70's. I saw 1st hand the many sites that owr fellow Puertoricans fought and died. It is inportant that the truth about the 65th Infantry Division is told. I love the history channel and see so many stories been told about, Black Americans, Japanees Americans, Jewish Americans and so on. I strongly belive that the history channel do their homework and do a story telling the world about the 65th Infantry Division and the men that fought gallantly and with great honor and pride.
