SEEKING INFORMATION C. MORINA

Comments: We are having a wing of the new PAULSBORO, NJ High school and an adjoining building named after Cpl. Carmel Morina, a PAULSBORO youth who died in North Korea while serving with the 7th Inf. Regiment, 3rd Inf. Division, September 3rd, 1951. We have a certificate to place in the Memorial but no particulars, i.e. how, where, when. His serial # was 51019165. His hometown, from which he joined was PAULSBORO, in Gloucester COUNTY. It is erroneously written that he was FROM GLOUCESTER, which is in another entire COUNTY. We would like that corrected, and would like some form of certificate for the Memorial that tells of his awards, actions, and death, if possible. Even the local VA Center Director, Greg Cipolla, at got a Korean War Veterans Honor Roll Certificate that STATEDCpl. Morina was from GLOUCESTER, which he WAS NOT. He lived in PAULSBORO, which is IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY. The city of Gloucester is in CAMDEN COUNTY. How do we correct this error? It can't be left wrong and placed in a glass cabinet that way. It's disrespectful to all of us, and I am sure just a common mistake. Thank you for your anticipated support in this matter. Daniel G. Nate, Sr., 75th RRA Advocate and State Surgeon for the Military Order of The Purple Heart;Jr. Vice-Commander, MOPH chapter 116;Camden County Veterans Advisory Committee;Gloucester County Veteran's Advisory Committee;Mantua, NJ VFW Member, 82nd ABN. Comments: I am hoping that you can provide me with some assistance in finding out where to get information on the 14th Infantry in Korea or to contact some of the vets who might have served then.

I’m trying to find out about when the 14 infantry was left on the line with the 2nd while the 25th rotated back. My Uncle Donald Turner was killed on November 4, 1951.

A letter sent to my grand parents spoke of Donald manning twin 50’s and they were over run when Donald couldn’t raise the gun high enough to shoot over the bodies of the Chinese. It also told of the Chinese wrapping their bodies with ace bandage material so that even when they were hit, it took 4 or 5 rounds to bring them down.

Comments: I had a very close friend that served as an enlisted man in the during 1953. He was drafted a couple of months after I was drafted in 1951 and we both took basic training at Camp Roberts California. I was talked into applying for OCS so I ended up attending the Infantry Leadership course at Camp Roberts, stayed on as cadre in Basic Training until attending Signal Corps OCS at Fort Monmouth, NJ. My friend Dale Frey went on to serve in L Co. 7th Infantry Regiment Korea and was released from active duty as an SFC in December 1953. Dale passed away in 1999 and I am trying to obtain some information about his unit during his time in Korea. I have been able to answered some questions for his children and grandchildren but I'm trying to obtain more information.

I have tried to find something in the articles in the various Army magazines on Korea about the 7th Inf. Regt but haven't found much. I have also searched the web pages on Korea and units that served in Korea. Could you please direct me to where I could find some articles or some history of the 7th Inf. Regt from the winter of 1952 to the end of 1953? Or do you have any contacts that may have served in L Co. 7th Infantry Regiment?

Barsloue in Korea. He said there were not that many that watched over the prisoners. There was one soldier that told him to be still when he stepped in a snake pit.AS He stood there the soldier shot amazingly all around his feet with an automatic and saved his life. That is only one of the extreme situations he has spoken of.Like a lot of Korean Vets only recently has he been able to speak of the War. I Don't think any part of it should be forgotten by this Country.

It seems he was quite a hero, starting in his first term of service in WW II, winning multiple medals and field promotions. I would dearly love to make contact with someone who actually knew this man of courage and honor and hear about the man himself. According to his MOH citation, he served in Company "K", 7th Infantry, 3d Infantry Division in the Korean War. Anyone who can tell me anything about him as a person would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any information and in reverse for any service you have given to our country. Anne

Comments: Looking for anyone that may have fought with or known my grandfather, James Edward Perham. He passed away of a heartattack when I was 4 so I knew very little of him. I have all his medals and many pictures of him in Korea with fellow soldiers. ANY information you can pass my way about this man or anything about the 7th infantry is GREATLY appreciated. To all the men and woman that served in Korea, I salute you.

Comments: My dad, Robert Hofmeister was in the war. HE was 19 years old and married. This war changed his life. I was born two years later. I always heard talk about this war and have many pictures. Dad was there when Marilyn Monroe came to support the men. When dad died he still had trouble talking about the war. He was shot, and spent one month in the hospital. Family members contacted the Red Cross and found dad. My dad, Robert Hofmeister fought for us and I am so proud of him. I honor him and have wonderful pictures.Robert my dad has many medals. Expert rifle, carbine, machine gun. Does anyone remember dad? Dad always had tears in his eyes when he talked of the war and remembered his friends who did not make it. Wish I could share some of this wonderful pictures of other service men. God Bless

Comments: I was only 2 days old when my brother left for the military, I never got to know him in the sense of him being there, however I knew him because my parents and my older brother and sister kept his memory alive, through their memories I grew to know and love him. My family never received any personal belongings of his, just that telegram so many other families were handed knowing before they ever read it what the dreaded message was, a sherrif's Deputy delivered it to my father, I still recall him telling me that he told the Deputy you couldn't hurt me any worse if you used your pistol on me. Dad and Mom have both passed away, they often said never knowing what happened to him was the worse thing. I feel like I have to find out where is remains might be and bring him home, he deserves to rest in the Country he fought for, and my parents deserve to rest in peace.

Comments: Looking for information on MSG George Kinney, RA 42203437, KIA vicinity Paju 25 April 1951. Born 1927. Home of record: Niagara, NY.

In 1958, the local Koreans put a head stone to mark his burial place on an isloated, lonely hillside west of Bob-won-ri. I am organizing a Veteran's Day ceremony to take place at his gravesite this year.

Please contact me if you knew him.
