Karen Mitchell wrote on 2002-10-08 20:39:46.0

Comments: My father, who was in the Army during the Korean War, died last year. I am looking for anyone who knew him, he never told us where he was or what he was doing. I remember a picture of him with some other men and a rocket and something that said "AAA". He once said he did something with radios, as well.

His dogtags were stolen about ten years ago, they were attached to his keys and he left them on the tire of the car. This was in the los angeles area.

My father's name was Phillip Stanton Mitchell, sometimes called Stan. He was born in 1935 at Fort Sam Houston Army Hospital. (His dad was Army too).

If anyone knows anything about him or where I might look, please let me know.

Thank you. Karen

Comments: Comments: i'm looking for anyone who might have known my father during the korean war. he was in combat. i believe he helped operate one of those big cannon-type machine guns (80mm?). he was shot in the leg and captured with 2 or 3 other men. my father managed to escape after being held for some time and was eventually rescued by u.s. forces & returned stateside to serve out his time somewhere around utah, nevada or the dakotas. my father grew up in tennessee, was in korea in the 50's, married my mother in holyoke, mass in 1956. my father died recently and recounted this death-bed story to a long-time friend. none of the family had ever heard it, so i'm seeking information that may shed light on his service. any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
