LOOKING FOR KENNETH D. ALLEN |
 |
 |
EDIE Lehnherr wrote on 2002-04-22 20:56:09.0
Comments: We used to play BlackJack all the time. In fact it was a good thing it was all in fun 'cause I won so much from Kenneth one night it would have taken him the REST of his life to pay me back! anxious to find out what happened to him. Also Floyd Tucker. He walked with a limp but I remember very little about him. I am having trouble with remembering anything about my Army stint. But if I could find Kenneth, I am hoping he can help fill in some of the blanks for/with me.

I was wondering if anyone was around there at that time.

Comments: My grandfather "papaw", Joe W. Head was sent to Korea twice while serving in the army. I am currently learning about the Korean War. Papaw never spoke of it and last week I had to make the arrangements for his funeral with a full military burial, this is when my interest peeked. I was at one web site just trying to get more paperwork on his time in the service and linked over to this site. I really enjoyed reading the story "Return to Heartbreak Ridge". Thank you to so many for letting another generation know about the things you went through. I would have never known. I hope to find out more. Again Thank you for sharing!

Comments: I served on the "Rock Pile" (Advance Camp) from '55 to '57. We were "IN FRONT OF THEM ALL" Our duties were to provide security at the Conference Area and along the road leading to it, right up to the "Bridge of No Return".After seven months I was tranferred to the Escort Section. There, it was our duty to provide escort service and security for all the meetings negotiators, dignitaries and visitors to the Conference Area,as well as escorting many "Top Brass" throught Korea. I have been seeking anyone that served with me during that time span. Please respond! Check out website for pics and stories.

Comments: Was NCOIC of T/A Section in Ops. 1955-56. Was there for transition from 329th to 301st C/R. Many may recall freeze on PFC promotions that left many of us with 19-20 months in grade as Pvt. E-2 serving in senior NCO positions. Also ran courier runs (ground and air) for company and had some contact with guys at our LLV sites. Took a hut truck up to the Z with 6 hot operators and 1/Lt. Nelson C. Lees. Our company commandre was Maj. Robert Markley; first shirt was M/Sgt. Dick McCoid who was replaced by M/Sgt. Guy D. Brace. Have excellent memory of those times and remember many names of guys assigned to both A and B Co. After leaving Korea in fall of 56 was leader of Basic Analysis Instuction Team at T/A School in the Birdcage at Ft. Devens, Mass. After discharge in June 57 got back into the intell business; retiring after 37 years (as a civilian) in 1991.

Comments: When the Division left Korea and was returned to Japan each of the Regiments was assigned to a US Army Camp at different geographical locations throughout Japan. The 7th Cav was at Camp Otsu on the shores of Lake Biwa and about 15 miles/kilometers from Kyoto. Back then one of each of the 545th's Traffic Platoons were ASSIGNED to each of the Regiments to provide MP support for that particular Regiment. This was probably the best assignment that I ever had during my almost ten years on active duty. The 7th had two Posts, North Camp and South Camp as well a semi-seperate dependent housing area at the Hydroponic Farm that was used to grow most of our Commissary and mess hall fresh produce. While we had a medical dispensary all baby deliveries and seriously injured had to be ground transported and escorted (red lites & sirens) to the Osaka Army Hospital, which was about 40-45 kilometers away. The Regiment had it's own Jail in the PMO next to the desk sgts area. As I recall we had four cells, each with two bunks and honest-to-god steel bars and jail doors. Back then we ahd serious soldier-to-soldier assaults as well as off-post crimes where prer-trial confinement was mandated by the Regimental CO, a Colonel Pavkick (phonetic). I stayed with the Regiment at Camp Otsu and Camp Nara (part of the Division Artillery was there) until the Camp was being closed. I then transferred to Camp Miho in Totorri Prefecture to support ASA, and then at Camp Zama, HQs USARJ with the Post MP Detachment.

Comments: Life along the DMZ in 1957 when the troops weapons were secured in the supply room for "safety" reasons and stood in line with claim checks when Alerts were called observing strict sound and light discipline.
