I have the cotton picker patch and pictures of the RF-86, including a Chinese (Formosa) RF-86. It will probably be a few months before I get my web page complete. It will be my first web page.

THOMAS (TOM) Bisping wrote on 2001-06-13 00:03:21.0
Comments: My name is Tom Bisping and I am the MidStates North Regional Director for the Korea Defense Veterans Alliance. Please be advised that bills have been submitted to the United States House of Representatives and to the United States Senate, for the creation of a service medal for service in Korea after 27 July 1954. In the House the Bill is H.R. 1935. In the Senate the Bill is S.999. The Bill is entitled the Korean Defense Service Medal Act. PLEASE do the following: Go to the KDVA website: http://home.att.net/~kdrrc/index.htm. Click the "Legislation" button. See if your Representative or Senators are cosponsors. If they aren't, call them and ask them to cosponsor either H.R. 1935 or S.999. Get as many people as you can to do the same. Click on the "Organization" button. Find out what region your state is in and e-mail that Regional Director. This is the best opportunity there has ever been for recognition. Join the fight and be with us when we "Take The Hill!!!"

May-June1953 with Tank Co. 28th Inf. He completed a marine and engineer and repair course at Newport News in December 1953. He was a paratrooper with possibly the 82nd airborne as a private in the army. He was shot in Korea while waiting in the chow line and recovered. He was later stationed at Huntsville Alabama, Fort Bliss 1956 and had his separation exam while stationed at Vicenza, Italy. I like to hear from any of his buddies.

Comments: Bobby and his mother sent Jin nam and the baby 1/14/57 gifts very often. He was going to send for her and Bobby Jr but things got bad in soule and the interpriter of his letters fled with military movment. They lost touch . In 1951 Jin nams mother feared for their lives and demanded she marry an GI and then shipped them off to the States. I believe Bobby might have been from Ca. He was 21 in early 1956. I was told he was in charge of a bunch of keys so I think he might have been in the kitchen or Commisary. Bobby Sr now has a Grand daughter and whe would love to find him if he is still a live. http://www.picturetrail.com/abcnoah has an album titled OUM. Here you will see them as they were in 1961 prior to leaving Korea.
Keywords: Bobby ( do not know last name ) Jin nam wife to be. She was 3mo pregnant when Bobby's unit shipped back to the states. They had al the paper work to get married done. As much as she loved this strawberry blond blue eyed american GI her pregnancy kept her in fear of the unknown and stayed behind.

Wrong Way Landing |
 |
 |
Robert Niederschmidt wrote on 2001-04-30 11:57:53.0
Comments: I was in the control tower in the summer of 56 when a C-47 pilot wanted to land when we had about a 500 foot ceiling. It was day time but we had no GCA. Our GCA was to stand outside the control tower and listen for the plane. At K-9 the field is surrounded on 3 sides by hills. The largest is about 3,000 feet high. The safest thing to do is to fly over the Peter Nan radio beacon and head south about 5 miles. This lets you down over the SuYoung Bay and you should be able to see the field from over the water. This pilot was very familiar with the field and deceided he could make a north to south landing. As he let down he said " I have the field in sight". To the control tower operators horror, the pilot was parallel with the field but over the SuYoung River. He is lined up for an auger into radar hill. He goes back up and for some reason comes in from from west to east. The strip is north and south only. Unwilling to accept defeat, the pilot tips the C-47 up on one wing to get a 360 heading. However, there is only about half of the 5,000 foot runway left. The good part is that he can chose which half to use. As all Air Force pilots, this guy must have been good. He was able to set the 47 down on the runway without major damage to the plane. I can't say what damage there were to any passengers life span. I was just a radio repairman who was checking equipment in the tower when this occurred. I was the one outside listening for location of the plane. I figured this was a normal landing. K-9 was a short field but 5,000 feet wide. The Base Commander was the pilot so nothing was ever said.

Comments: Looking for any information from someone who was in this unit on what it was like in Korea during this time period. I don't know if you recall my dad, but he really never spoke of waht went on while he was there, although I new it wasn;t all peace & quiet. He passed away December 22nd, 2000. If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks to all vets for what you did for your country. We truely appreicate it.
