Comments: What a terrific site. 40 years later and the memories of service are still fresh and remembered fondly. Performed radar surveillance on the DMZ with 3/32 Inf of the 7th Inf Div in Nov 67 thru Jan 68. With good buddies Doherty, Fitch, Marshall, Nace, Lesczyski, Siegrist, Niemand, & Levinson, we manned OP Hendrix & Dessart thru the holidays and winter months just before the N.Koreans seized the USS Pueblo. Remember the icy roads up to the OP's, 3 day rotations with C-Rations, building sand bag bunkers, charging the radar unit batteries during the day, and operating the radar units at night trying to catch N Korean infiltrators. Very surreal environment. Rotated home in May '68 a little more mature, and upon reflection grateful for the opportunity to serve.

Comments: Guys in speciffic are Danny Dawson Hells Angel Member form Ca. Shelids, Vick and Jones.
Sheilds,Vick And Jones were wounded and sent back to the states. The story around it is. They were on a wood chopping detail for the officers club while they were off the Z. A Lt at S3 cleared the area they were to chop wood in, meaning it was not mined. It was mined and sheilds lost a leg from his upper thigh down, Vick lost his foot from the ankel down and Jones lost one eye from the shrapnel from a land mine. FROM a land mine that was not suppose to be there. The Lt was transfered the next day, probably saved his life the transfer. PVT Saterfeild crawled into the mine feild tied off the stumps and brought the three men out of the mine field. I visited them later in the Hospital way down south some where.
I donot remember Saterfeild getting a medal for the incident. But do remember others who did receive medals for a hell of a lot less.
Still looking for some of the guys.
sincerly

Comments: I served with HHC 2/38th 68-69 and was assigned to HHC Recon Platoon. Which was a ready reaction force controled by the Brigade S3. We lived in a sand bag bunker about 300 yards from the actual fence. We ran around in gun jeeps and 106 anti tank gun jeeps. Pulled a lot of stake outs on the Imjim along the Z and other places. Blue Lancer Valley was the rotation point for us after our 4 month stint on the Z, then after 4 months rotate back. Pulled a lot of time on Guard duty in Blue Lancer Valley, the mountain top south of the valley that overlooked the whole place. A lot of Guard duty on the Imjin south of the river. As a group we stood out because some one.. I am sure very High Up had deciced that we should wear Black Berets with the logo strike force with a lightning bolt. Am quit sure some of you remember the Recon Platoon. I was scheduled to pull guard duty on th mountain and kind of borrowed << STOLE>> the ISG 3/4 ton truck. It was so icy i ran the thing in a ditch, still humped it to the top. The First SGT called me in the next day after i got off and he had my pass in his hand. He opened a bottom drawer on his desk and droped my pass in to it, closed it and said get out. He kept it most of my tour over there. It might have saved me from getting some treatments that some of my buddies were getting.
Would like to make contact with some or all of those guys.
Just some memories of good and bad times.

Looking for 2nd Engineers in Korea from 1967 to 1970 - Any Company |

Comments: Please contact me. I am looking for any and all former members of the 2nd Engineer Battalion from any Company who served in Korea at any time in 1967 thru 1969.
Several of your brothers are still fighting the effects of our time in Korea. We need photos, copies of Combat Pay orders, statements of duties of the 2nd Engineers who worked in and along the DMZ or who were in my Company, E Company (Float Bridge).
Right now I am working with several guys from 2nd Engineer Battalion who have multiple health issues as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange. Yes guys, that stuff sprayed along the fence, around the guard towers and the Guard Posts and Out Posts we were building was the infamous Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed along the roads inside the Zone and around the bridgeheads at Freedom, Libby and the Spoonbill Bridges was Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed around our compounds to kill the brush and weeds was Agent Orange.
Even if you have not had any symtoms, like Diabetes, heart problems, a variety of different cancers, or any other health issues, we need to hear from you. And if you are fighting or have faught with VA for care and compensation for these health problems, we need to hear from you. And most importantly, if you had children conceived after your return from Korea who were born with birth defects, we need to hear from you. If you have been successful in winning a claim filed for Agent Orange poisoning or PTSD as a result of your service in Korea, it is very important for you to contact me.
Even though I am just a former Captain and Company Commander, I made a promise 40 years ago to stand up for my men and to back them in anything as long as they did what the officers and NCOs asked them to do. I take that promise very seriously and now, 40 years later, I will continue to back and stand up for our men. It is very important that I hear from you as soon as possible. For many of your brothers, the time could be very short, but they have families who will need help even if it is too late for the men themselves.
If you can and will help, please contact me at my email: pesteward@hotmail.com, or call me at (706) 996 - 4057.
Thank you.

He was so doped up that he did not care either way. I will not go into all the other stuff that happened on my tour, but that 11 mons and 29 days changed my life forever. you know the odd thing about the hush hush Korean DMZ WAR is the guys that went to nam and came back and claim that they get no respect, well we got no respect or thanks because it sounded like liars when we told our experiences, The nam guys were the worst. Comments: Don Morrison - your email is being returned to me as not valid - please contact me - here is my reply that did not get through -
Hello Don - Thanks for writing. I left Korea in mid-December of 1969. Since you arrived just over 3 months later then 1LT Buchanan was probably still CO and I think 1SGT Carl Ivey was still Top then - is that right. I see you were at Camp Ethan Allen. Had the Bridge at the Spoonbill been put back in yet? We built three timber tresel bridges in the villages near the camp, including one that crossed over the stream about 1/2 mile south of the camp - it led from the small village there over to the hill that was that area's graveyard (It had like about 100 mounds there where they buried their local people). I don't remember a lot of the guys there - other than some of the officers - there was 2LT Jeff Farver, 2LT. Stuart Kline, and another 2LT who was Italian but I don't recall his name. Since you got there only a short time after I left, you may have known Sp4 Brian Mallory too. Do you have any photos of you and other members of E Co or any 2nd Engineers working along the River, or along the fence or up in the zone? We need to get some pictures of 2nd Engineer Equipment (AVLBs, Bridge Trucks, Dozers, loaders, lowboys or even jeeps and stuff in those areas with their unit id numbers showing. Before I left I had prepared plans and materials lists for 32 new bridges to be built both above and below the River - most were replacements for bridges built at the end of the 1st Korean War. I know the Zone was still a hot spot after I left and if you worked around the Spoonbill Bridge or on the Patrol Boats and any up along the fence or guard posts, you were exposed to areas treated with Agent Orange. Have you had any health issues since then? Diabetes, heart trouble, cancers? Please let me know. Even though you were there after us, E Company's Mission and work duties could not have changed that much in just 3 1/2 months, so if you could prepare a letter outlining the work you and E Company did during your tour on the river, fence line, the minefields or in the Zone and the Guard Posts, and sign it and swear it to be true to the best of your knowledge and recollection, that letter could go a long ways toward helping a bunch of your brothers who are in health trouble now. I promised all 285 men under my command in E Company that as long as they did their jobs and followed our orders and directions that I would back them and stand up for them through anything. Well, even though I am no longer on active duty (I am still in the inactive standby reserves) and no longer their CO, I will not let them down now. As it stands now, I am the Senior (former) Officer of 9 other guys from the Battalion and the widow and son of another. They did their jobs for me and the other officers and NCO of the Battalion then so I will not quit until I see they are getting the care and treatment the deserved. The only thing that will stop my battle for them (us) is for the VA to take responsibility for their (our) care and treatment and compensation or if I die. I am sending a copy of this to the other guys so they may contact you too. Take care Don - and thanks for writing. Phil Steward - pesteward@hotmail.com

I was the one photographed for the article. Any help finding these items appreciated. Don't remember much except the time i was patrolling Freedom village and a old lady escaped from N Korea. Thought we were going back to war with all the soldiers and tanks lining up on the other side. As to the previous post, yes i remember Mickey Mouse Village too. Remember 9-11

Comments: If you worked at any of the 2d Inf Div. Guard Posts or Out Posts, or along the fence in the Guard Towers, or went on patrols into the Zone from the Fence, you were in areas directly sprayed with AO.
Please let me know where you were and what you did. Also, if you had contact with any Engineer Units or personnel in those areas, you can help us. Also - go to this site and read all of this document - it is long, but factual and worth the read - it was published before DOD and DOA confirmed use of AO in Korea and outlines where, who and when AO was used. http://cgsc.leavenworth.army.mil/carl/resources/csi/Bolger/bolger.asp .
Copy and paste that and read it ALL. It may be the best piece of evidence for those with AO related issues. What health issues are you facing? What has VA said, if anything about your conditions?
Please reply so I know more about you. I am working with 9 other guys from my Battalion - 2 of whom were in my Company - all of us are fighting with VA on AO caused health issues. Maybe we can help each other.
Take care - and write back soon.

I remember my commanding officer captain Akem who I respected highly and would love to hear anything about him.
