Comments: My Dad was Commander Lt. Col. John Cunningham with "Rock of the Marne", forget which Brigade. He spent 18months on the DMZ. Trying to remember the name of the reporter that did a newscast with him.
Also anyone that wants to know more of his history, he Commanded the Presidio of San Francisco and Commanded in Ft. Leonard Wood with the Blue Devils. My Dad died in January of 2008.

Comments: I just recieve my records from St. Louis National Personnel Records Center. I see the unit I was with left out a few items. Maybe they were misplace. As I talk to other veterans, it happen to all of them too. There was no records of combat action while on patrol, or what the truth about what happen on Oct. 19, 1969 ( the truck ambush ),THEY WERE IN THE DMZ WHEN THEY WERE KILLED NOT SOUTH OF THE DMZ. We were getting shot at, and returning fire. I know they told us not to start world war 3, but that is no reason to leave out the truth. I think 8th army left the DOD out of the loop about what was going on over there.

I served with Co A 2nd battalion 23rd brigade 2nd divison 1st platoon from March68 to June 69 on the DMZ in Korea. I believe it was the 13th of April 1968 early in the afternoon when we learned that a patrol was pinned down by North Koreans at the base of the hill that GP Gladys was located on. My platoon sargent was able to round up about 16 of us and we were going to get that patol out. We got our weapons and ammo and headed out to the GP.Once there we reenforced the trenches and we could see that the patrol was about 100 feet from the white tape.I am standing in the trench looking into North Korea when all of a sudden 4 to 5 rounds hit right in front of me,kicking up so much dirt and stones hitting me and Rick Rohtan in the face.Rick yelled out I am hit as we ducked down into the trench.Boy did those stones realy sting.I told Rick you are ok no blood we got hit by the stones. Immediately the LT made his way down to us and asked me if I knew how to fire a M60,I said yes and I followed him to the gu enplacement. He pointed out the general area the North Koreans were postioned and told me to fire the M60 upon his order to fire. Apparently,he had to get permisson from Dividon in order to fire into North Korea. In the meantime I sighted the M60 on the target area but needed to stand on a few sand bags to do so and from waist up was exposed. For sure I new I was going to die once I strarting firing.Well in the meantime the pinned patrol was able to get away. And once Divison learned that the patrol was safe,we were ordered to disengage and return to camp.Misson Accomplished. Years later I learned that when those stones hit me in the face, they reputured a sinus tract.Better that than being killed. Would like to hear from others who were my unit Email mpacellasr@gmail.com or phone 716 822 5237

Comments: Hi guys, did we have some crazy times down in the villages with the women and on the DMZ GPs. In 1968 on our GP on the DMZ we had a guy who shot off his M79 in our bunker into a GI ass from 10ft away, didn't go off but brused his cheek real good, anyone remember? We did patrols on the MDL and one night we got spooked by movement around our post and shot everything up with our M16 and the M60 and our KUTSUA was wounded in the shoulder real bad. We had good times and bad times. Anyway,I came to Korea from Vietnam in late 1967 (173rd airborne)because I got hurt there and was only 17 years old, shit, I thought I was getting orders for the states but my LT was really pissed off at me and I think that's why I recieved orders for Korea. And yes I do remember the GG shots I got at the Kimpo airport. Hope someone is still around. Bill from Iowa

(Richard Ramsey, I knew Tommy Sanderson from the Plane ride over from Travis AFB.He was from Fayetteville N.C.) I also would like to say hello to Tony Grabon from Culver City, hope your doing well. Army life... never want to do it again, but would'nt have missed it for the world. I served with some of the best people in the country, if not the world, and damned proud to be a Veteran. Last but not least, hello to all my basic training friends from E-14-4, Fort Knox, Sept. 63-Nov. 63. Ended up at F. Ord at HHC 4th Bn 3rd Brg as a Battlion Mail clerk in a Basic Training unit. Comments: I served with HHC 2/23rd Inf from Feb 68 to March 69. I was NCOIC of OP Mazie when we were across Freedom Bridge. I also worked in the Orderly Room for awhile as assistant to 1st Sgt Gragg. I was the only Vietnam Vet on the DMZ in 1968. I was at Panmunjom Village when they released the crew of the USS Pueblo. Also participated in the hunt for the 91 North Koreans who came across to assinate the president of South Korea. Some of the guys I remember are Sgt Danny Wilcox, SP4 Rideout, Company Commander 1st Lt. Walter Ridley, SGT Mahone, SP5 Ramos, SSG Tutt. Would love to hear from anyone who also served during that time period. You can email me at barbiluvr@aol.com.

It only takes one bad experience to take your whole world down... especially when one of your own fires a full magazine into your hootch while you're still in it, only because he was mad at one of his own... Do you remember that? I sure as hell do...

Comments: Hello, My name is Ismael Lopez and I would like to reconnect with my buddies from Korea and touch bases. I hope they are all doing fine. I was station in Korea during 1967-1968.
I was in the 1st Batallion, 38th Infantry, Company B, 2nd Infantry Division. I was an Imjin Scout, I earned my scout insignia at CC3.
I was stationed at Middle Camp Custer ( I even have a sign that reads, "Mission Safety. Safety wins more than Luck. 1st Batallion, 38th Infantry, 2nd Infantry Division, Middle Camp Custer"
We used would go on Hunter-Killer partrol, also Night Ambush and also used to stay the nights in the fox hole at the barrier. We also spent nights at the observation point. We used to hear the North Korean speakers all night long!
After 6 months I was transfered, to the 2nd MP unit.
I remember some of my friends were Bob Watson, Donnie M. Baker, Marrero (who was transfered from Vietnam due to injury, I think he was cuban and from New York) we were good friends and I have several pictures of them.
I have several pictures of my old buddies and Korea and would very much like to reconnect with anyone who may have been there at this time or who remembers me.
Hope to see or hear from someone soon. Bye.
You can email me at partytimepartysupplies@yahoo.com -- If you can respond please mention that this is in regards to Korea in the subject line so that I know who it is and do not accidentally miss the email. Look forward to hearing from someone soon.

Comments: I served in Korea late 1962 - 1963 at HQ S3 taking reports from the DMZ for compilation to the Colonel in the morning. I worked 8 hours on and 24 hours off until I left Korea for my old outfit at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky home of the 101st Airborne Div. The notable memories that I have of my tour in Korea was how cold it had gotten in the winter, and the ambush at 1 yankee & 2 Zulu that killed 2 of our guys and wounded one other. We had flushed hills during the day (before I was assigned to HQ from Company A )and had stakeout at night, until the North Korean agents were captured and/or killed way south of our positions towards Seoul. The whole tour was a FOG to me. But, I do remember Robert F. Kennedy visiting our location to be briefed by 9th Cav next door to us. ( Lucky bastards) I was the one who told the North Koreans about the assasination of John F. Kennedy, when I called it to the guys out in the Zone. We all knew they were listening in on our calls, and we thought it would be kind of interesting to speculate just what the North Koreans would tell their guys that would differ from our report. We were stationed across the Imjim River, and I can remember the fragrance of the fertilizer used in the spring for their rice paddies as we neared Chang Pari at the end of the bridge. (Hooooo-weeeee!) Munsan-Ni was a nice little town compared to Chang Pari, But it was Chang Pari that gave me fond memories. Oh,well..here it is 2010, and from some of the pictures I saw of Chang Pari, it has certainly changed. Using Google earth, I could just barely recognize the town, had it not been for the bridge. Well, thats all for now, I wish I could remember all the people I worked with that year, and I want to say I am sorry for anything that may have made them angry with me. I was young, so I did make my share of errors.

Comments: I do remember a standing order that nothing around the camp was to grow tall enough for a man to hide behind. If agent orange was available, I'm sure that's what was used. I now have heart problems, prostrate problems, an enlarged thyroid and muscle pain. The VA says that some of these can be from agent orange. I've filled out the paper work and waiting for results. You can get your drugs from VA for $8 each.

Comments: Was in 2nd Inf.Div. band 67-68 with Cheif Warrant Officer W-2 Josef Orosz Jr. as band leader. Pictures in Indianhead paper dated 5/01/68. Went on allert when 31 North Korean infiltrators tried to assinate Pres. Pak Chung He. Also there when the USS Pueblo was taken. Our supply hut burned to the ground one night destroying all our gas masks and weapons etc. Played for a fire house opening in a near by village. At the time Camp Ross was where everyone in 2nd Div. went through after Camp Houze. Had an admin company at the camp too.

Comments: Tried to contact most of you many times but was not successful.Would love to hear from you. I still reside in Jersey City, NJ and my phone number is listed. I just retired 10/09 and worked for Zurich Insurance in NYC. I was in 1 World Trade Center when the first plane hit on 9/11. I saw more that day than my tour in Viet Nam in 1968. My main squeeze was Kim Bon Ok (Angel) who worked in the Rendezvous club. She was so beautiful and I think of her until this day. After my Korea tour, I was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. It was beautiful there but too boring for a 19 year old, that is why I volunteered for Viet Nam. Met Mullins (finance dept) in Viet Nam 90th Replacement Center but once he was assigned somewhere, I never saw him again. We were at midnight breakfast when TET started and they blew up our ammo dump. Would love to hear from my old friends or others who were stationed there at the same time.

Comments: If you were in Korea in the 60s, 70s, or eightys and have medical problems but are being denied by the VA,don't go it alone. We are looking to help our men to hopefully get the benifits they deserve. There are no guarenteers but if we can document a large number of cases to show congress it is not just a few men not happy. Please describe your issues and what the VA has done for you. Have you witnessed the spraying of any toxic material or used it yourself that would be important information. If you know of any issues that should be brought forward, now is the time to help our cases. Let us all stand together and help each other. We fought together so it is time to stand together.

Comments: Was feeling nostalgic about my time in Korea (11/66 to 10/67) and I found this web site. Havent found any of my buddies but it has been fun reading some of the comments. I was in Camp Casey, Company C, 1st Bn, 31 St Inf, 7Th Div. Served with some great guys (McCormick, Huddleston, McKenzie, Perry, Dixon, Deleston, Garner, Andrews-sorry guys cant remember you all) and only have wonderful memories. It may have been to cold or to hot and we may have humped to many of those hills but all and all I wouldn't change a thing. Well, maybe one. In hindsight, I wish that I had realized how wonderful it was being 21 and enjoyed the experience a bit more. We worked hard (at times) but when we went into Tongduchon we sure knew how to have a great time. Would be nice to reminisce with old buddies from Charlie company.

Comments: I am looking for Al Coley and Jessie Smith. They played with the very famous band the Victims of Success from 1967-1969. These guys played all over South Korea. I have been in steady contact with Stan, Steve and Walt. We have pictures and great music from their gigs. If anyone remembers the band and can help me find Al and Jessie, that would be great.

Comments: I'm looking for buddies that served with my Dad, Bernard J. Thomas (B.J. Thomas). He served with the 2nd Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 8th Army in Korea in 1969-1970. He was in Headquarters and Headquarters Company. He spent his whole time on the DMZ and was never rotated off. He spent time in Camp Jackson, Camp Young, and Camp Greaves. He helped with the engineers and run telecommunication cables all up and down the DMZ as well as pulled a lot of comm duty. Dad has a lot of illnesses caused by agent orange. If anyone remembers him please contact me at ky_gal40475@yahoo.com.

Comments: Having been sent by HQ of 6/44th Arty to the Army MP Station @ Seoul to pick up a Lt. Col with a ABC News Correspondent that just arrived fron NY to document the release of (US Navy Captain and Crew Members)from the USS PUEBLO as "P O Ws" by the North.
After we all crossed the DMZ to the furthest Nothern point and successfully received the entire crew, we returned to the 2d Inf. Camp for debriefing.
Once we all ate and debriefed, I was informed by same Lt. Col and advised he would be staying and I was to take the News Correspondent back to the MP Station @ Seoul where someone else would return him to Kimpo AB for his return flight to the States with his story.
Shortly after our loading my jeep w/ his equip. we set out for the return trip to Seoul. Our trip began chaotic and probably 10 or 15 Kilometers from 2d Inf a group of Koreans came jumping out of the brush on a mountain side where I was "clipping right along" in a very hurried fashion and my drivers side mirror struck the back of the head of one of the kids with matter splattering on the canvas /plastic door with the kid going down & under my left rear wheel. For what ever my reasons at the time I decided not to stop and did NOT. Upon arriving at the MP Station the News Correspondent began ranting and raging about my runnig over and killing this kid. Neither of us had any way of knowing. The MP's on duty called a superiior officer and the Korean Police to report me with the incident. Full Reports by ALL were made before I was allowed to leave. Threatened by US Military Courtsmartial as well as Korean Imprisonment I completed a telephone call to my Father (retired AF Officer) in States and was finally released.
THIS......... is what I need "HELP" proving. If anyone was assigned to this unit or know of ANYONE else that was the

Comments: I was stationed in Korea in the fall of 1968. My compound was called Guje Budae which translates to scroungy compound. It was right next to ASCOM Deopt compound in Bupyeong. The 121st Med Evac Hospital that was mentioned so many times on the TV show M*A*S*H was on the ASCOM Depot compound. I was a 63H20 and I spent most of my time there working in a junk yard that was on the SP50 compound. This compound also housed a signal company and an MP company. We were right across the street from a heli-port and AV unit that flew CH-21's. During my time there we transferred over 300 M-211's to the ROK Army. It would be interesting to hear from anyone who might have some 40 year old memories to share.

Also I was in Ft. Carson Co. in 1967 5th Infantry supply and the person that ran the armory was gone and they had me issue everyone their rifle to be cleaned, I new nothing about cleaning fluid that I gave out , but the next day all rifles were white in color, I had given out DDT to clean rifles , had to do it all over again after the person that was in charge of this got back. i was only 17 I new nothing at the time about chemicals.

Comments: While there we laid the first mine fields just south of the DMZ. We also re-enforced the 9th Cav & patrolled the DMZ, pulled op duty. I remember hearing & feeling the ground being tunneled underneath us. When we reported it, the reply was you are imagining things. The main reason we were sent to re-enforce was the North Koreans had snatched one of the 9th Cav man while he was driving, by himself, in a jeep to relieve a man on op duty. They didn't have enough people & had to do one man on duty at the op's.

Comments: I was assigned to the HHC, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. On May 17, 1969, serving as a combat medic, I was on patrol of the DMZ when I was hit by a grenade allegedly thrown by the patrol leader. I am looking for other members of the patrol who might have knowledge as to whether this was truly "friendly fire." If you were a member of my unit I would appreciate hearing from you.

A man from Atlanta, GA named James Knight took my place as XO driver when I rotated back. I also remember a friend name Norman Fowler. I was at Camp Casey. I was north of the Imjin most of the time. All of my records and pictures were burned in a house fire. Please contact me if you remember me or any of the people I have named. Thank you.

Right after retraining at Camp Casey; I was sent home on Emergency leave because they thought my father was dying. This was abount the time of the Chicago Deocratic Convention. The US was in turmoil about the Viet Nam War and the streets were filled with Hippies. He was a Korean interpretor and went to the Monterrey Language school in California. He drove a Bentley prior to military service. I don't know much about him except he lived in the San Francisco area. After returning to the United States, he wrote to my husband but never had a return address. That was about 40 years ago.

Comments: I was an Engineer Company Commander in 1968-1969. I am trying to assist the family of one of the soldiers killed in the ambush in the DMZ on one of the Guard Post roads. Four soldiers were killed (murdered)on 18 October 1969. I have sent some photos of the 5/4 truck and the Stars & Stripes articles.
The family has asked about film clips which appeared on the news Stateside. If you know where some of these film might be found, or you have any photos or other information about this attack, please e-mail me direct pesteward@hotmail.com
Thanks,
Phil Steward
