Comments: Looking for those Hawkers who were there in August, 1976 when Cpt (Major) Bonifas and Lt. Barrett were murdered at the DMZ. I've never been able to let that go. I'd like to share thoughts and feelings about the incident and maybe get a "buddy letter" or two, and just catch up. Any Imjin Scouts and JSA people are welcome to contact me, too, and God bless you for your service--keep up the fire! I need info and help for my claim, maybe we can share. Also, any Scouts and 2ID who served at Camps Sitman and/or Wagner in October 1965, please contact me to help one of your own, a good friend of mine. Thanks.

Comments: I was stationed at a Hawk Missile tactical site located near Seoul Korea from July of 1971 to March of 1972. I do remember South Koreans and others clearing brush around the tactical site. I also remember that there was spraying going on. I believe it was Agent Orange and I would like to have any information on the spraying of agent orange at Hawk Missile Sites in Korea. I was assigned to 38th Artillery Brigade, 7th Battilion, 2nd Artillery, Battery D. KwaChon-Hari, Korea. I currently have the early stages of Diabetes, and I have a handicapped son with multiple birth defects and I am looking into any connection between the agent orange and my son's disabilities.

To all Vets in Korea since 1962

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Phil Steward wrote on 2008-05-17 17:12:21.0

Comments: I had a great call and conversation just after noon today (Wednesday - 5/14) with U.S. Congressman John Doolittle and his assistant Jeff Valuck. He is really hot to go on this and I am going to get one binder in final form for him and send it up there. He said he will get it copied and get it mailed out to all 80 guys (well and some ladies - mostly widows and Vet's Wives) on my list here AND he will get copies made for all members of the House and Senate and get them put in the Representatives and Senators hands.

Based on what he told me on the phone, the best place to be standing in the coming weeks is well behind the fan.

He has already started doing research and is talking with other Congressmen, including Rep. Bob Filner who chairs the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. As you may already know, Congressman Filner held a hearing late last week relating to apparently false statements and information by the Department and Secretary for Veterans Affairs before Congress relating to suicides among vets now returning home from Iraq. At the opening of that hearing Congressman Filner asked Secretary Peake if he should be asking for the resignations of other upper level staff of the VA or if he himself, the Secretary, should be resigning.

Long story short, Congress is not real happy to hear of the problems we (Veterans of the 2nd Korean War) are facing with the VA and Congressman Doolittle has promised to push very hard toward fixing this.

Each of you reading this who served in Korea since 1962 need to get busy writing your Congressmen and Sanators in Washington telling them to contact Congressman Doolittle and join in on this effort.

You can find your Congressional memnbers here:

http://www3.capwiz.com/mygov/dbq/officials/ < < < < COPY AND PASTE THIS IN BROWSER

Congressman Doolittle then plans to schedule a hearing on the issues affecting all Vets who served in Korea since 1962 and work toward getting them ruled Presumptive just as the Vietnam Vets were. He is very interested also in the fact that VA has not been sharing, or at least not paying attention to the Court rulings for other vets when a ruling is handed down. He feels that is a gross injustice on VA's part.

I am going to hook John up with a couple other congressmen who are helping with other vets to get this rolling. I feel good about this and I feel like he will spearhead this for us.

So the Appeals process may soon be mute when all the evidence comes out in Oversight Hearings in both the House and Senate in Washington. Stay tuff, Guys - there is bright light coming into sight in this 40 + year long tunnel.

We will now be "Fireing H.E. Rounds For Effect" on behalf of Vets from the 2nd Korean War! Let's keep the fire hot on VA and let them know we ALL WERE THERE!!

One veteran of this attack recently re-joined the army in 2006 at age 55! SP4 Tom Owens joined the army at 17, served 2 tours in Vietnam, and earned 2 bronze stars before leaving the army in 1992. he rejoined and maxed hi s PT test!

Comments: Last summer I went out to the river with a friend, we was to meet his brother and some friends. They were going to camp being I live so close i figured I would go home every knight. Back to the story, this guy came riding in on his harley he had the 2nd division pagch on his fuel tank. So I just went over to him and started talking to him, come to find out we were in the same unit and company back in 77&78. 30 years ago watdoyathink. small world we all live in is't it and of course he told me about bravo company in Fort LEWIS NOW and he told me that the name changed from the bushwacker's to the bayonets so much political correctness. Well I hope you all are doing fine and the ones who are in Iraq, hope you are all doing fine You know I'm with you all in mind and spirit I can't come over and help cause I have a messed up leg that to the doctor, and I have gotten the worst that you could imagine brain cancer and it's terminal. I live each day to the fullest, I have my friends and my wife and my gandson I have a daughter that live in Nebraska and another one the lives in Wenachee, she works for a company called stimilt, it's a big apple packing place she just a promotion in exports basically she sell fruit to other countries. Bye for now and hope to hear from some of you guys. Michael

I remember the folage around our perimeter being sprayed but it was done by the Engineers..I know we had to conduct perimeter sweeps outside the clear visual area therefore exposing us to what ever was used to kill the folage. I know that for years I have a rash on my legs that comes and goes. I have talked to a few fellows I served with but that was years ago. SSG Wandie Douglas Rice lives in Charlotte Tenn, Carroll Dean Webb home town Erwin Tenn,Jerry Marcum served with Hq Company 5th Bn 38th Arty from camp sabre but was assigned to billit at camp Kensington. I haven't spoke with the above for years.

Comments: I am looking for Vets who were stationed at Camp Casey Korea after early 1970 who know anyone from that Camp who have been diagnosed with cancer, heart disease, or diabetes. Possible Agent Orange residual affect may be their problem! Please contact me if you have any information. I was there briefly in early 1970 and have been recently diagnosed with Non-Hogkin's Lymphoma as well as heart disease (HOKM) and high blood pressure. Thanks for any info.

Comments: I was at Camp Casey from Aug 1978 to Aug 1979. I used to hang out at Johnny's 777 Club and the Oasis Club. I sewed my oats downrange until I met my wife Chong Sun. She was a bartender at the Oasis. We are still married to this day. My friend Frank Nugent was going to marry a girl named Chong Hwa. I had a great time in Korea with the exception of the time I drank to much Makgeolli and soju and fell off the bridge on my way back to my hooch around X-mass time 1978. I had a fractured leg. Top covered for me and wrote in the report that I fell down the stairs helping someone carry a wall locker. I healed pretty quick and was back downrange again. Some of the guy's in my unit were SSG Ringold, Rooster, Kevin Crogart, Gene Abraham, Paul Hansen, Bruce, Bud Lee, Carl Stewart, Doc Love, Sp5 Kelly, 1SG Cochran, Lt McDonald, Heck, Acker, Olsen, and Fancher.

Comments: The smells of Korea still linger in my nostrils. JP4 fumes. Kimchi smelling Katusas. Raw sewage from the village. Raman noodles boiling on GI's hot plates. The stale beer smell of the Lucky Club. The diesel room heaters that were always malfunctioning. The smell of the french fry cooker at the EM club. It was spartan life when it came to living in a quansit hut and the showers where 75 yards away. No such things as internet and cell phones. Just letters to keep it touch with the home folk. But the 13 months went fast and it was fun. Does anyone remember the race riot of the summer of 1972. The new general put the village of Tondouchon off limits for 2 weeks. While the village was off limits the bar owners, the cafes, the shop owners, and the business girls all got together and decided to raise the going price of everything. Cheap trills were over in Korea.
