Comments: I served with 3/23 inf, C co., 3rd Plt 68-69, as a Rifleman (M-79) / RTO. Many days and nights in the "ZONE". Occasionally was lucky enough to set on the barrier and watch the fire works out in the "ZONE". Green , Blue, white and of course red traces.. On July 30, 1968 @ approx 02:00 hrs I Was part of a 25 man patrol operating in the DMZ. We were broken down into 5 man "Rays". My Ray was operating near The Mayors House. Another 5 man "Ray" became heavily engaged near Motor Hill. We responded and linked up with the Ray under fire. The NK's continued to engage and attempted to flank us. The patrol had suffered (1)KIA (2)WIA out of the 5 men. Another 5 man "Ray" arrived. We managed to lay down enough suppressing fire to get the wounded and dead out, then re-engaged the NK's until they broke off heading across the MDL. It had been a long night when we finally made it GP Gladys. We found many blood trails at day light...A few of us were given medals for our effort, not that it was needed or even wanted....This was a very long time ago and I have moved on with my life but there are times that the days in the "ZONE" as well as the guys strolled around "out there" with are vivid in my mind.............

Comments: Does anyone remember the fire at Duffy's Club New Year's eve 78-79?It was started by a GI,and 2 GIs were killed. The guy lit some tinsel on fire, and the whole club was gutted. There was no curfew cuz of New Year'sand I was in there til about 1/2 before it started.I went to work at the 545th ER and that's where they brought the 2 GIs,both DOA.Anyone that remembers drop me a line.

Comments: Who still has their black berret with the flaming shute. Where is SGT "Rock" and who could forget running through ville with him. And First SGT Morris one mean mutha. And who remembers when the BC stood up in front of us and blamed the old BC for the hell that he was about to put us through. Little did we know our DMZ trip would be so eventful. To bad the people who were not there could'nt see through the polotics.
