Comments: Looking for people who were in Korea from 1990-1992. I started out with C co 2/503 INF on the DMZ from Feb-May of 1990, then went over to B co 1/5 INF who relieved us on the DMZ.

After DMZ Mission with 1/5 I went to Camp Howze and was assigned to B co 1/503 INF. During the first Gulf War we were getting re-assigned left and right because of units deactivating, if you were there you know what I am talking about.

In total I wound up doing two full DMZ rotation before 1/503 Handed the mission back over to the ROK's.

Comments: Had an incredible time at the JSA - trying, but rewarding! I can still remember getting smoked by 1SG Lopez for chewing gum in formation, drinking WAY too much beer, late nights at the gym, Kim Il Sung dying, Jimmy Carter's visit, The "Carter Expressway", 0300 alerts, the Army's best chow hall, trying to keep up with the Army's best soldiers, etc, etc.

If you were there during that time frame, drop me an email.

Comments: I served in Korea and didn't do a Z mission. I got there in nov 90, when the 1/5th was on the Z. The powers to be decided not to send me there, and I had to wait to join my unit when they got off the DMZ. I was with HHC 2nd Brig, and then went to HHC platoon, TOW section, Dco 1/5 inf. I was there until july 91, and went to Eco after the 1/5 th transitioned to Bradly Fighting Vehicles. My MOS was 11-H. Thats why I did't go to the DMZ in the summer. The whole Bradly trasition. They sent The 503rd instead. Which to my understanding, was the last DMZ mission for the 2nd ID. The US turned over The US Army's section of the Z to the Rok Army in the fall of 91. But I have a lot of crazy memories from my time in The ROK. I went to Ft Carson and finished my time in the army there. It wasn't the same, Korea was a wooh place to be in The Army. Allthough I don't miss sleeping in -35 degree weather, or the smell. But I took lots of photos, which is what i do now. I work as a photographer, and im hoping to start my own bussiness someday. Some guys Im hoping to hear from are grey, booth, wolf, deville, dupont, or anybody that served with the 1/5th.

1995 attack

Brian Stearns wrote on 2008-03-18 02:28:37.0

Comments: my name is brian stearns and remember an attack during 1995. i was in 3rd platoon charlie company 1/506th. my platoon sgt, myself, and another specialist set a cratering charge in the path of a t-72 (may have been t-55). the charge didn't explode on time for someone cut the time fuse too long. inadvertantly, myself and platoon sgt caught some flack from the damned thing when it did go off. we went out to check the situation out since we lost track of the tank. sometimes i have nightmares about it and the tank fired a round between the two of us whcih blew platoon sgt's leg off. I remember doing first aide on him for some time before our platoon medic found us.

whole battalion went on twenty-four hour alert. I got shot in the head (protected by kevlar) and both hips (again protected by kevlar vest and two ammo pouches. they truly saved my life.

everynight I look out windows before going to bed looking for the one who shot me. don't suppose i'll ever find him.

my brother and cousin were both stationed there down south around casey. they stepped outside one of there barracks to have a smoke and fell through the ground where koreans dug a tunnel. didn't catch any of the little guys though.

can't say i remember much about the tank incident other than that. sometimes some of the other guys from my platoon show up. sometimes the medic never shows up. it's like i am reliving the attack over and over again. every time is different though. Sometimes recall an attack on AHA while i was on guard that night at Charlie gate.

We didn't have Humvees when I was there. I'm trying to track any of the old guys I was stationed with to see what they're up to these days. Here's some names that I can remember: Chris King from Illinois, Kerry Hamilton from Texas, Kirk Sells from Indiana, Tad Casey from New York, Erik Kvalvik from New York, Alton "Joey" Broome. I can only remember the last names of the following guys: Botset, the big brother named Coppage, Jeff Abernathy from Mississippi I think.

So if you needed gas at some point,we probably met I took some pics of the Korean guy with the dog farm during Team Spirit excercises. The guy who owned the photo shop on base "Snap" said alot of pics did not come out. He lied. He did not want the photos to get out. I had a few. Other guys in Srv. Battery had some too. (we witnessed what it was like to harvest a dog like wild game). After I ETS and returned home, my folks home burned to the ground and with it all my pics. I would like to get in touch with guys from my unit and see who still has pics. Would also like to contact Sgt Todd Lipka and Marco Diaz(The post office guy)..Thanks

Looking for 2nd Engineers in Korea from 1967 to 1970 - Any Company

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Phil Steward wrote on 2007-12-16 18:40:07.0

Comments: Please contact me. I am looking for any and all former members of the 2nd Engineer Battalion from any Company who served in Korea at any time in 1967 thru 1969.

Several of your brothers are still fighting the effects of our time in Korea. We need photos, copies of Combat Pay orders, statements of duties of the 2nd Engineers who worked in and along the DMZ or who were in my Company, E Company (Float Bridge).

Right now I am working with several guys from 2nd Engineer Battalion who have multiple health issues as a direct result of exposure to Agent Orange. Yes guys, that stuff sprayed along the fence, around the guard towers and the Guard Posts and Out Posts we were building was the infamous Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed along the roads inside the Zone and around the bridgeheads at Freedom, Libby and the Spoonbill Bridges was Agent Orange. The stuff sprayed around our compounds to kill the brush and weeds was Agent Orange.

Even if you have not had any symtoms, like Diabetes, heart problems, a variety of different cancers, or any other health issues, we need to hear from you. And if you are fighting or have faught with VA for care and compensation for these health problems, we need to hear from you. And most importantly, if you had children conceived after your return from Korea who were born with birth defects, we need to hear from you. If you have been successful in winning a claim filed for Agent Orange poisoning or PTSD as a result of your service in Korea, it is very important for you to contact me.

Even though I am just a former Captain and Company Commander, I made a promise 40 years ago to stand up for my men and to back them in anything as long as they did what the officers and NCOs asked them to do. I take that promise very seriously and now, 40 years later, I will continue to back and stand up for our men. It is very important that I hear from you as soon as possible. For many of your brothers, the time could be very short, but they have families who will need help even if it is too late for the men themselves.

If you can and will help, please contact me at my email: pesteward@hotmail.com, or call me at (706) 996 - 4057.

Thank you.
