Comments: My grandfather served with the US Navy in the Korean War. He ranked as a SN and from what I was told he was the person who drove the landing ships ashore from the larger ships. He served with Company K from Waynesburg, PA. He was enlisted from 1950 to 1954. I am looking for anyone that may have served with this same company. His name was William Joseph Church but he went by Bill.

Shannon VanHoosier wrote on 2004-06-21 15:58:06.0

Comments: Where can I find a list of those who served in the Korean War? I am trying to find info on my father who passed away in 1965. After my father passed away in Tallahassee FL in 1965, our family moved to Indiana to be with my mother's family. We lost touch with my father's side and did not go back to Fl to visit. I recently drove to FL to find my father's grave and found that it is unmarked. I believe that since he served in the Korean War, he may qualify for a Veteran marker for his grave. The problem is that I don't know exactly when he served and I do not have his social security number. I do not have any immediate family left - so I can't get this info from them. My father was born in Gilchrist Trenton FL in 1932 and died in Leon Tallahassee FL in 1965. Is there a list of those who served somewhere???? How can I go about finding the info that I need?

Thanks, Shannon (May) VanHoosier

He had a swim partner named Riley from California and he was killed after the war by a drunk driver. My father was injured a couple times during Korea. He was from Iowa and went to Washington state after his discharge in San Fran. Any info would be appreciated. Comments: My Uncle, William (Bill) Pellerin (my father's brother), was lost at sea after a plane crash off the coast of San Diego on Nov. 10, 1953. I believe that he was serving on the Cape Esperance at the time, and that he had previously served General Hugh J. Gaffey. My father passed away 11 years ago, but wouldn't talk about my uncle's death. I would love to learn of any information about my Uncle, and/or about the accident.

Comments: I am trying to find out how my mother's cousin was killed in Korea, the unit he was with, ships battles etc. She believes it was near the end of the war and that he was on a ship. He was from Tennessee and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Search

I am interested in finding info on naval air operations during the
Korean War and in particular I'd like to delve into the accounts of
those pilots KIA. Is there any place online that I might find or
request such information?

My compliments on the wonderful presentation you and your group of
volunteers have put together on this topic.

I know my grandfather (Edward Joseph Cimburek) was in the Navy. He was
located in the Phillipines during the war. He was with 13 other people
when thier sea-plane crashed. This is what I found out. A sea-plane
usually went on a flight with 14 crew members. On that particular day 2
people called in sick.

One however, decided he could fly. The other one didn't go. The signals
on the plane indicated water below. (That was the only part of land they
could safely come down on.) They were having trouble with their engine.

Instead of landing they crashed into the side of Mt. Baton. Those men
were only 30 days from coming home. I hope this helps. This is all I
know. Thanks for your time and your help.

Sincerely,
Anna Cimburek
