Comments: Hello. I would like to hear from anyone who may have served with my father, Robert "Bob" Heuss. Unfortunately, all I know is that he was a Korean vet, maybe a radio man, and served in the Pacific. I believe he served near the end of the war. Any rememberances or suggestions for further assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you and peace.

Thanks,

Comments: Looking for any information on my father John McGuire who was a Navy Corpsman. He never talked much about the war when he was alive. I do know that he was injured in a grenade blast and received several medals which have disappeared over time. I do have a newspaper clipping from the "Chicago Herald-10/09/03" which shows him holding an American flag with Marine Sgt. Leon Reese of Huntsville, AL. Apparantly they are getting ready to raise the flag over the American Consulate in Seoul. Any information on my father or this part of the war would be greatly appreciated. Mary C. McGuire

Comments: I am interested in locating anyone who may have information about a sea-going tug, LT-636, skippered by Charles J. Roy, my uncle, a civilian, which was towing a crane barge to South Korea from Wonsan, when it hit a mine and sank. Roy and a several other individuals made it to the crane-barge and were rescued several days later. One of the survivors was an army sergeant.I have no other information other than my uncle was alleged to be the first U.S. civilian casualty during the Korean war. I would appreciate any and all information about this incident. Roy is now deceased and he has one surviving son, age 80, who does not have all the information about his dad and his activities in Korea.

Looking for John F. Ronan |

Lenette Hamm wrote on 2003-01-31 14:03:32.0
Comments: This page, http://www.geocities.com/ronankids/kids.html,is dedicated to my search for relations of Lt. Commander John Ronan. I was born in Pasco Washington, 1951, my biological father is John F Ronan, and was placed in an adoptive home soon there after.
I've found most of my birth relations on the mother's side and am still searching for those from the father's. This is what I know of him:
His name is/was John Ronan, maybe John F Ronan, he may have been born around 1916 to 1918 possibly in Ohio. He was thought to have lived in or been reared in New York. When he sired me he was a Lt. Commander in the US Navy. He was stationed in Hawaii and Korea in/around 1952.
He was believed to have been married and divorced to a woman whose maiden name might have been "Corry". He was said to have fathered two children by her, in the 1940's, a boy, (who could have been named James Douglas) and a girl, (who may have been Dorothea Elaine).
It is very possible that John Ronan is, by now, deceased my search is mainly keyed toward finding my siblings so I might establish a friendship with them and find out more about our father's family genealogical and medical background.
As an adoptee I'm unable to give my children and grandchildren even the most basic information about their ethnic heritage or possible medical problems which they might anticipate.
Any information you may have about these folks of mine, no matter how small, would be of great interest to me. Please EMAIL (ronankids@yahoo.com ) me if you know something which might help, or Send This Page To A Friend who might think of who it could be of interest to. Thanks.

Earl J. Garrison - Corpsman |
 |
 |
Frances Williamson wrote on 2002-07-29 08:22:10.0
Comments: My father, Earl J. Garrison, died 04-28-2001, about six weeks after a serious stroke. For 5 years he was also battling chronic emphesyma/COPD, which took him down slowly. He was a three war veteran (WWII, Korean, and Vietnam). He started out his service career as a Pharmisist First Class back when dog tags were round, but otherwise, was a Corpsman in all of them. He had curly, blondish/brown hair, a significant nose, blue eyes, a fine singing voice, and smiled a lot. But he never backed down from a fight.
My dad was in Korea in the 50's. I have slides of pictures he took while in Korea. A couple that stood out were of a boy whose stomach was disdended from starvation and another of the camp's pet dog mascot named "Pistol" (more for his 'relief of duty' than for any aggression).
My father addressed all of his duties with deliberate intentions to finish them, wether it was in war or at home. He kept the horrors of war to himself until the last two years of his life when I was caring for him. Only then would he confide what he went through. I think it was because he felt I had earned the right and priviledge to know, having proved myself able to hold up under the stresses he saw me go through, but refusing to give up.
I'm his oldest, his daughter, and very proud of him. I did not allow him to be in a nursing home where he didn't want to be and didn't belong. I lost my husband (He told me I had to choose between my dad or him when my dad was no longer able to care for himself) and my job (They kept pressuring me to 'warehouse' him in some nursing home under threat of my loosing my job. After 18 years with EIX/SCE, I was terminated after my fathers' death on trumped up charges. I'm fighting this now). I have no regrets. Just as he would have been there for me I was there for him. But even more so, God commands 'Honor thy father and mother.' The only commandment that come with a promise. My dad never gave up - and neither will I.

Comments: I no nothing about my father except that he was in the Korean war and died in 1976. I visited his grave this year in NY and noticed the words SN on his military stone. Can anyone tell me what SN is? Also, I do no think anyone was close to him but if anyone remembers Leonard James Mekusky - I would appreciate a response.

Comments: What happened to the Pima County and the Carppolotti? My father, John F. Henley, served on both of these ships and I can't find them on any list of ships. He served in the Navy in 1953-1957. If anyone served with him, I'd love to hear from you. Please contact me at Lserres111460@msn.com. Thank you! I'm looking forward to hearing from you. My father will be very happy, too.

General Search
I am interested in finding info on naval air operations during the
Korean War and in particular I'd like to delve into the accounts of
those pilots KIA. Is there any place online that I might find or
request such information?
My compliments on the wonderful presentation you and your group of
volunteers have put together on this topic.

I know my grandfather (Edward Joseph Cimburek) was in the Navy. He was
located in the Phillipines during the war. He was with 13 other people
when thier sea-plane crashed. This is what I found out. A sea-plane
usually went on a flight with 14 crew members. On that particular day 2
people called in sick.
One however, decided he could fly. The other one didn't go. The signals
on the plane indicated water below. (That was the only part of land they
could safely come down on.) They were having trouble with their engine.
Instead of landing they crashed into the side of Mt. Baton. Those men
were only 30 days from coming home. I hope this helps. This is all I
know. Thanks for your time and your help.
Sincerely,
Anna Cimburek
