Comments: Clyde O. Groves, Jr. was my grandpa. I have some of his things from his time in the Navy and although it's probably a long shot, if anyone recognizes his name or ships I would love to hear from you. I have a card that reads: Clyde O. Groves Jr. has participated in OPERATION CROSSROADS ordered by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to test the effect of the atomic bomb on naval vessels and conducted at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands. (Unit or ship) NavMedResSec / I can't read the signature by: Commanding. The signature of Vice Admiral, US Navy, Commander Joint Task Force ONE isn't much better but it looks like: MAM Blundy? Blandy? Just what did these tests consist of? -I also have the following: card for the Royal & Ancient Order of the Deep -June 16, 1943 /SS Delbrast. Also, Sacred Order of the Golden Dragon, C.O. Groves, Jr., CY, USN- June 11, 1946 aboard the USS BURLESON (APA67) 21degreesN / C.L. Carpenter, Captain, USN. - Imperial Domain of the Golden Dragon - Silent Mysteries of the Far East,1946-J.F.Wickham,Lt.Cdr.USNR/ExecOff Liberty card from the USS Cascade (AD16) Billet #4122 / TW Hardisty, Lt-Comdr, USN Thanks in advance, Dawn George

Ships of East Coast of Korea 1952

RICHARD (CHUCK) Sutton wrote on 2001-12-13 21:57:22.0

Comments: During 1952 I was assigned to a radio team That worked with Naval Gunfire on the East coast of Korea. We contacted different ships for gunfire support inland on the MLR. I can't remember the ships we contacted. Events and times are lost to me but I do remember calling to certain ships and asking them for support. They would communicate with the forward observers for their fire mission and then we would call in damage reports. Is there anyone out there that remembers working with any of these missions? This was towards the end of my tour of duty and about the only thing I could think of was going home. The time I served with Naval Gunfire was September through November.

Jack Blackmer, lost at sea

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Sidney Blackmer wrote on 2001-11-13 22:11:55.0

Comments: Just dropped by to see if my uncle Jack Blackmer, US Navy, was listed in the war dead. He was not. He was buried in Casey Iowa around 1953. His grave went many years without the proper Korean War KIA marker. I think his parents, my grandparents, had a very difficult time after his death. We, his nieces and nephews, contacted the American Legion around 1976 and they got him the standard bronze marker for his grave. My father, his brother, said that Jack was a Navy Corpsman and was washed overboard but his body was recovered. This is about all the I know about Jack as my father is also rather closed mouthed about him. I would appreciate any other information about Jack Blackmer.

BEVERLY (HANZELKO) GONZALEZ wrote on 2001-04-16 15:01:36.0

Comments: I would like to know if anyone remembers my father -- Robert J. Hanzelko. He was in the Navy and served in World War II and the Korean War. He lived in Stratford, Connecticut and was drafted in his senior year of high school to serve in World War II. He graduated from Bunnell High School and later, from University of Connecticut at Storrs. My father was a radio man aboard a ship but I don't know what the ship's name was. My father passed away at Age 57 in 1983 from a terminal illness. I wish I had more information about his time in the Navy. He never spoke about it very much, which I understand is normal for men. My father was a wonderful man and he would be 75 years old if he were still alive today. I am very interested in knowing any interesting facts that you can tell me about my father. I miss him terribly! Please write as soon as possible! Thank you.

Comments: Chief Bosn Plocki died in June 1951 in Lake Michigan while he was in the process of assisting in the recovery of a plane piloted by Lt. Nabours who apparently died in the crash. Plocki was from Albany, NY. I have a newspaper article about the incident but it does not say the name of the unit the Chief was in at the time of his death. I would like to include his name and details of his death, including his unit in a submission to the American Battle Monuments Commission so that his name is included on the Korean War Vet Honor Roll in the kiosk in D.C. thanks, ken page, Director, NENY Ch. Comments: My uncle was shot down somewhere around August of 1954, almost 5 years before I was born, by "friendly fire" while on reconnaisance.

My grandparents didn't talk about him and I know it is a difficult subject for my father -- his only sibling.

I'd like to know if anyone knew him...I'd like to know more about him.

Comments: Howard was my uncle. i never got to know him. He was killed, I've been told, in an auto accident on his way to a ship that was to bring him home. I would like to find anyone who knew him and can tell me about him. I would also like to find a photo of him.

How do I find out on which ship my father served?

Comments: I would like to find out about what ship my father was on during the Korean War. He was in the Navy but could never speak of the war once he came home....too many painful memories.

I never asked out of respect to him. He is deceased now and I am interested in finding out where he served. He also served in WWII.

I would appreciated any input you may have.

Thanks to one and all......and God bless all the vets, fallen hereos and MIA's. My prayers go with them all!

Comments: My dad turns 70 on July 06, 2000 and I'd love to find a few of his navy buddies. He has so many memories and stories to tell. His name is Stanley Harold Werner. He was a submariner in the Korean War. He does not share much information with his family so I do not have many specific details. He was a engineman on the Tinosa and the Sablo submarines. He was trained as a UDT person. He had a friend named "Kson" or "KC" who was a boxer. He also had a friend named "Horton". If you knew my dad or think you knew him please write me back and I'll forward the message.

I am interested in finding info on naval air operations during the
Korean War and in particular I'd like to delve into the accounts of
those pilots KIA. Is there any place online that I might find or
request such information?

My compliments on the wonderful presentation you and your group of
volunteers have put together on this topic.

I know my grandfather (Edward Joseph Cimburek) was in the Navy. He was
located in the Phillipines during the war. He was with 13 other people
when thier sea-plane crashed. This is what I found out. A sea-plane
usually went on a flight with 14 crew members. On that particular day 2
people called in sick.

One however, decided he could fly. The other one didn't go. The signals
on the plane indicated water below. (That was the only part of land they
could safely come down on.) They were having trouble with their engine.

Instead of landing they crashed into the side of Mt. Baton. Those men
were only 30 days from coming home. I hope this helps. This is all I
know. Thanks for your time and your help.

Sincerely,
Anna Cimburek
