My question is, I believe the ducks were given the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation as well. Can ANYONE confirm or deny this...my internet search is not coming up with anything "official" like.

Named in the photo are HM KIRKLAND, BMC and BD FINCHER, QMC. I know that my grandfather went on to serve in the Korean war. Comments: I am just researching and trying to find out some information on my Uncle who fought in the Korean War. I do believe he was in the Navy. He ended up missing after his ship landed in the San Francisco harbor. He was on the ship on the return trip back to the states but then never got off the ship when it landed. The FBI did do an investigation which came up unconclusive. If there is anyone out there that can give me any kind of information at all, please help me out. I would appreciate it so much! Thank you. He was my father's brother and we would just love to know the real story behind his disappearance.

Comments: My father served on the USS Klondike, from 1950 to 1952. The USS Klondike was based out of San Diego. I am trying to find out if the USS Klondike was in Korean waters at any time from 1950 to 1952, or if it stayed in San Diego for the entire two years. If it did go to Korea, the Navy wants me to tell them the location, and the dates it was there, on a form they want me to fill out. I have tried to find out this information from the Navy, and from sites on the internet, unsuccessfully. If you know any site I could find this information or if you know this information, that would be very helpful. Barbara Quigan

Comments: Hello:

I am sending this message out to all my fathers shipmates that may come upon this to let anyone know that may be still be with us from the commissioned crew of the Douglas H. Fox DD779 that he spoke of- that he has passed away on November 9, 2007. I miss him terribly. To those that are resting in the China Sea My father is on his way to be with you soon! His ashes are awaiting a ship to go to the South China Sea where his wishes are to be scattered among and laid to rest with his buddies he was unable to save during a battle during the Korean War. I can still remember the 12 men's names. He was however able to save 2 men's lives and was highly decorated for that. He will always be My Dad and my Hero. I wrote him a poem and was honored to have it published in a hard copy book called "Timeless Voices"- although away most of the time serving our country his willingness to serve taught me respect and his acomplishments gave me encouragement. Hopefully "My Dad, My Hero" will bring an inspiration and an emotional sensitivity to all that read it. Here it is:

MY DAD MY HERO From the colonist who rebelled, to the soldier of today, you're my hero, Dad I know not what else to say. You sailed many seas of blue and deserve tribute that is due, So very proud a daughter I am and Dad, I sincerely love you. You are my American Hero,Dad, your devotion is second to none, Your courage and bravery alone caused many battles to be won. We have beaten the forces of evil and carried our flag far and wide. Because of My Dad, My Hero, my heart is filled with pride. Only because of you and the price you willingly did pay, only because of you, Dad, Old Glory still flies today! Nettiann L. Ventura

I miss you Dad!

Flag is out front!

God Bless our Country and the men and women just like you- "Our Military Proud" --Semper Fidalis--- _______________________________________________________________

He already served in WWII, was recalled from the Reserves twice for Korean duty. This surely is not as significant as info re those who did not return, MIAs, etc. but I would like to get more info and photo if possible. You can be assured that we are leaving some thoughts and perspectives on wars and other "conflicts" for our kids and grandkids, etc. Thanks, Ann P.S. I tried the list of Navy ships with no luck.

Alledgedly he was a high ranking navy in Korean war, having to do with the Navy Commander sohn Won Yil and it seems he was killed in a friendly fire by US, having something to do with US president Harry Truman. Mylife has been shrouded in mythtry and I want to know more in details. Can you tell me how Sohn Won Yil died? I was alledgedly born on 3-6-54 and all my life (in US since 8-77) has been intricably related to this 38 parellel concept and I want to know why? Please help me! I believe that US Congress has earmarked some fund for me all my life and is still studying me for whatever reason. This is a serious case so please help me! My email is Helencareergirl@aol.com. Comments: If anyone out there knows the plane my grandfather flew - F4U Corsair - and can give me the numbers, insignias, etc. (or any other info) I would greatly appreciate it. I don't mean his individual plane (unless that info is known), just any numbers of the planes on the Intrepid during the Korean War. Also I need to know what the graphic was that was put on the planes to indicate how many kills each plane had. Thank you.

Comments: Hi, Hoping someone out there remembers. I am looking for John Hall, aboard the Forest Royal in Boston, Mass. 1950-1952? I know he was from Arkansas and his mother's name was Ruth. He had a buddy named Bass from Oklahoma. They used to frequent a club called the Hillbilly Ranch in downtown Boston, a very popular night spot with the sailors. If anyone has ANY info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Leona McCarthy-Cook, Boston, Mass.

Comments: I am of no relation to Clinton L. Case. Clinton L. Case is the father of my brother, Jasper Case. Clinton L. Case was discharged from the Navy in 1946. He married Nellie M. Moore in 1946. They moved to Kentucky and their son, Jasper Case, was born on June 21, 1946. Clinton L. Case left on a bus (1946) to seek employment and never returned. Jasper Case has never given up on finding his father. Any medical records, if Clinton L. Case is still alive, did he ever divorce Nellie M. Sturdivant, did he remarry, did he have more children, etc.? His (clinton L. Case) family was from Michigan. ANY INFO would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and consideration. Comments: I the info I have on him is: Carroll S. Rodgers. DOB: June 28, 1930. He died in April of 1985. I have a Navy picture of I guess his unit in 1948 in San Diego, CA. It has written at the bottom, Comapny 20 July 19, 1948 US Naval hospital Corps School. San Diego, CA. I also have a scrap book that he put his pictures in from his time in Yokosuka, Japan. I don't know exactly when he was there, but there is a card in there from 1953. So, I do know he was there during that time. I have a picture of the front of The Community Church of Yokosuka. I don't know if that was being used as a hospital or not. Just trying to pass along any info for those that were there and to find any of his mates. Any help would be appreciated. There are various pictures of individuals I assume were his friends. He was originally from Arkansas. I don't if he enlisted in Arkansas or Louisiana. Again, any help is much appreciated.

Comments: Where can I find a list of those who served in the Korean War? I am trying to find info on my father who passed away in 1965. After my father passed away in Tallahassee FL in 1965, our family moved to Indiana to be with my mother's family. We lost touch with my father's side and did not go back to Fl to visit. I recently drove to FL to find my father's grave and found that it is unmarked. I believe that since he served in the Korean War, he may qualify for a Veteran marker for his grave. The problem is that I don't know exactly when he served and I do not have his social security number. I do not have any immediate family left - so I can't get this info from them. My father was born in Gilchrist Trenton FL in 1932 and died in Leon Tallahassee FL in 1965. Is there a list of those who served somewhere???? How can I go about finding the info that I need?

Thanks, Shannon (May) VanHoosier

I have requested his service records but havent got them yet. I think he served on the USS Fort Marion LSD 22 and I know he served for awhile with his brother Wilbur "Pug" for the last few months on a ship DE550 I think. He had a swim partner named Riley from California and he was killed after the war by a drunk driver. My father was injured a couple times during Korea. He was from Iowa and went to Washington state after his discharge in San Fran. Any info would be appreciated. I have a son headed for Iraq anyday now and a daughter off to bootcamp in July and these are our only 2 living children and they are interested in their grandfathers military life. Thank you.

I implore anyone who may have served with him or that knew him to contact me. I only have one surving picture of his navy days, the others burnt in a house fire. When I was small, he had a picture of the destroyer he served on, but I don't remember the name of it. Thank you very much, Melissa Buchanan

Comments: All I know is that my father, Lawrence Edward Gray, was in the Navy, at the time he was in Philadelphia, PA when my mother knew him. I have never met him and would like to. I have been searching for him for quite a while. I have no other information about him except he was 2l when I was born in l953. If anyone has any information, please email a mtrans@alltel.net.

I appreciate a lot.

Looking for John F. Ronan

Lenette Hamm wrote on 2003-01-31 14:03:32.0

Comments: This page, http://www.geocities.com/ronankids/kids.html,is dedicated to my search for relations of Lt. Commander John Ronan. I was born in Pasco Washington, 1951, my biological father is John F Ronan, and was placed in an adoptive home soon there after.

I've found most of my birth relations on the mother's side and am still searching for those from the father's. This is what I know of him:

His name is/was John Ronan, maybe John F Ronan, he may have been born around 1916 to 1918 possibly in Ohio. He was thought to have lived in or been reared in New York. When he sired me he was a Lt. Commander in the US Navy. He was stationed in Hawaii and Korea in/around 1952.

He was believed to have been married and divorced to a woman whose maiden name might have been "Corry". He was said to have fathered two children by her, in the 1940's, a boy, (who could have been named James Douglas) and a girl, (who may have been Dorothea Elaine).

It is very possible that John Ronan is, by now, deceased my search is mainly keyed toward finding my siblings so I might establish a friendship with them and find out more about our father's family genealogical and medical background.

As an adoptee I'm unable to give my children and grandchildren even the most basic information about their ethnic heritage or possible medical problems which they might anticipate.

Any information you may have about these folks of mine, no matter how small, would be of great interest to me. Please EMAIL (ronankids@yahoo.com ) me if you know something which might help, or Send This Page To A Friend who might think of who it could be of interest to. Thanks.

Earl J. Garrison - Corpsman

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Frances Williamson wrote on 2002-07-29 08:22:10.0

Comments: My father, Earl J. Garrison, died 04-28-2001, about six weeks after a serious stroke. For 5 years he was also battling chronic emphesyma/COPD, which took him down slowly. He was a three war veteran (WWII, Korean, and Vietnam). He started out his service career as a Pharmisist First Class back when dog tags were round, but otherwise, was a Corpsman in all of them. He had curly, blondish/brown hair, a significant nose, blue eyes, a fine singing voice, and smiled a lot. But he never backed down from a fight.

My dad was in Korea in the 50's. I have slides of pictures he took while in Korea. A couple that stood out were of a boy whose stomach was disdended from starvation and another of the camp's pet dog mascot named "Pistol" (more for his 'relief of duty' than for any aggression).

My father addressed all of his duties with deliberate intentions to finish them, wether it was in war or at home. He kept the horrors of war to himself until the last two years of his life when I was caring for him. Only then would he confide what he went through. I think it was because he felt I had earned the right and priviledge to know, having proved myself able to hold up under the stresses he saw me go through, but refusing to give up.

I'm his oldest, his daughter, and very proud of him. I did not allow him to be in a nursing home where he didn't want to be and didn't belong. I lost my husband (He told me I had to choose between my dad or him when my dad was no longer able to care for himself) and my job (They kept pressuring me to 'warehouse' him in some nursing home under threat of my loosing my job. After 18 years with EIX/SCE, I was terminated after my fathers' death on trumped up charges. I'm fighting this now). I have no regrets. Just as he would have been there for me I was there for him. But even more so, God commands 'Honor thy father and mother.' The only commandment that come with a promise. My dad never gave up - and neither will I.
