Comments: My father served on the Siboney right after it was built, and I believe that may have put him on the first crew. His name is Jim Empting. Served under Capt. Ring. All through my childhood he would tell me of being a plank owner of his ship, and that when the ship was set out to pasture, he was supposed to get a plank. The ship has been scrapped for a long time now and I was wondering if he was acually supposed to get a plank, or if that just allows him to just say that he is a plank owner. I have seen his certificate that says he is a plank owner but I can't seem to find any information on this subject. Also if there is anyone that remembers Dad it would be nice to hear from you.

Keywords: my father was on the siboney in 1955, his name was bobby hensley, he was an e-3, helicopter utility squadron two (hu-2), he said that he spent most of his time in cuba and turkey,he is from greeneville tn, if any one remembers him please contact me, he past away in august of this year, and im just trying to find someone who may have knew him, he was in the v-1 divison, air department

Comments: My grandfather, Richard "Dick" Tubbesing, passed away last week. He was an EM2 and was stationed on the Siboney in the 50's at some point. I have seen the exact dates but don't have them on hand. I am active duty Coast Guard, a Marine Science Technician 2nd Class out of Louisville, Ky. I am trying to put something together for my mom and grandmother about the Siboney, and really have no info as of this point. Any information, pictures, literature that I can get would be gratly appreciated.

Comments: My dad, Edmund Long served on the Siboney some time during the late forties and was discharged January of 1950. Does anyone remember him? He passed away 2002, and used to tell great stories about the navy. I am putting an album together in honor of my Dad, and am trying to find a picture of the Siboney. Can anyone help me?

Comments: My father Nathan was aboard the USS Siboney around 1951,52,53 and/or 54. He said he doesn't remember the exact dates. He was mainly on the hanger deck with maintainence and was an elevator operator for the flight deck. The only name that he gave me that he really could remember was Jim Tate. Comments: Have been able to locate Yassi and Grimes. Would be great to hear from A, MM, & BT division. Was a great ship. We de- commisioned it in Phillt at the end of 1956. Made 2 Carribbean & 2 Med. cruises aboard Siboney. Were best times of my life.
