Comments: My father Edward M Maloney from Calif. was held as a POW in Korea for 18 months, He will not talk of what happened, so I am looking for help to find out his story. If anyone was with him,or knows his story I would like your help in piecing it together. What camp, from what dates, how was he captured, etc. I do know that he was in the service from 47 - 49 then called up in 52 to go to Korea. his military records are not available, I was told they were burned in a fire at the VA.

Comments: We are looking for my Uncle, Alfred Lopes, Junior. He was listed as missing in action 2/13/51. There was an unconfirmed sighting of him by Private first class Albert Matysczak as being marched North. He was originally from Massachusetts, but enlisted from Ohio. He was Cape verdean, so would be classified as black, I guess. He went missing near Hoengsong. We have had so many questions over the years, and finally, with computer technology,we are taking a real look at what may have happened to him. He has 7 brothers and sisters, waiting for word. Thanks so much, and God Bless!!

Comments: I am a former State Police investigator and formerly worked for the largest intelligence agency in the world in the far east for several years. I recently returned from China where I lived near the North Korean border. During this time I spoke with people from North Korea and people who had relatives that lived there and frequently visited them. They were from three different areas in China and did not know each other. They all stated that Americans were seen working in several fields during the day and were guarded by armed North Korean guards. I also spoke with a European aid worker who told me where the dead were buried. After returning I gave this information to the following agencies and individuals;

FBI - Seattle office (twice in person) White House - Washington DC email DPMO - Washington DC telephone conversation Email to Chuck Norris and Mike Huckabee NBC News ABC News CBS News CNN News Fox News Governor Bill Richardson before his trip to North Korea, 2007.

To this date only Bill Richardson and DPMO has responded to me concerning this. Governor Richardson travelled to North Korea in 2007 and confronted the North Korean authorities with this information and urged them to clear this up as soon as possible. DPMO (Dan Baughman) who was with Governor Richardson on his trip and attempted to "debunk" all of my information. I am convinced there are some still alive from the Vietnam War and possibly the North Korean war there as my sources are reliable. This is not made up!! I have only dealed in fact based upon interviews and conversations from reliable sources. So everyone can deny this (denial of reality) if they wish. The sad fact is they are there and have been abandoned for whatever reason?? Just think of them during your "easy" life here and realize what price they have paid for you. I will never forget them.

Comments: I am hoping to contact anyone who might have known my uncle Cpl. Earl T. Bailey. I have more information than when I first started looking on this website, but I would love to know more. I do know he was from Dierks, Arkansas. Trained at Fort Lewis, Washington around 1949. I believe he was one of the first groups to be sent to Korea. He was taken prisoner around Hoengsong on Feb. 12, 1951. POW until his death Nov. 30, 1951. If anyone out there has photos of Ft. Lewis from around 1949 I would be so grateful to see them. Or if anyone might have known him while they were there and can share stories or just information would be great. And of course if anyone could share stories, information or photos of their time in Korea with him I would love to hear from you. I don't know which POW camps he might have been in or which one he died in. Thanks so much for your help.

I don't have any other information. Pretty sure he was USMC (as one of the last "flying sergeants") If anyone can help me with ANY information. I dont know his unit, camp, anything. Comments: My uncle Kenneth died on January 17, 1951 after being wounded, then captured and interred in an unknown prison camp in Korea on November 25, 1950. Kenneth was buried, presumably, in a mass grave in Korea. My grandmother was given the Bronze Star and U.S.A. flag in his honor. She was told by those that were imprisoned with him of his bravery. All of Kenneths brothers and sisters are now deceased. I have the flag that was given to my grandmother but would be interested in any further information from someone that might have served with him.

Comments: I recently lived near the North Korean border in Northern China. During this time I investigated and interviewed several persons who visit and have visited family still inside North Korea. They told me of Americans seen working in the fields of the North Korean countryside (east of Nampo and south of Kanggye). Some of the men were older (60-70) and some were 50-60 which would make them Vietnam veterans. Some of my sources told me they were placed there from Russia and China after diplomatic relations were being "normalized" with the US. I have formerly worked for a US Intelligence agency and I am a former state police investigator. I notified the FBI, Whitehouse, CBS, NBC, ABC and Mr. Bill Richardson the Governor from New Mexico. Mr. Richardson took my information last week during his recent trip to North Korea and informed a commanding general of the need to return these men and remains to their families. Mr. Richardson is the only person that took action on this information and responded to me to this date (5-21-07). If I learn more I will inform Mr. Richardson. There are live POWs there!!

Comments: I am trying to find ANY info. concerning Sgt. First Class James E. Prickett, my father. All I know is that he was a POW in Korea. I have a newspaper article from a San Francisco newspaper dated Sept. 10 no year. It is titled " Georgia POWs To Return Soon" It states that the Army has announced that 280 freed Korean War POWs will arrive here Wed. aboard the transport ship Gen. R.L. Howze. the last of the POWs. I have another clipping that is titled "Freed Alamo PW Given Joyous Greeting Here". It says Dad stepped off a plane at Cochran Field. It says that the family of another prisoner was there but the soldier,M.Sgt. Walter P. Spivey , was not on the plane. He had been taken to Jax. Naval Air Station Hospitol to be treated for tropical malaria. I was only 6 years old when my father passed away. I have no real memory of him. I am currently trying to get his service records from our govt. Everyone knows how difficult that is. His records were destroyed in the fire in Kansas. All I have is a picture, these two articles, and a certificate signed by Pres. Bush, honoring dad's memory and service to his country. If anyone knows any info. about my dad, PLEASE contact me. By the way, I am married to a Vietnam Era Vet. and his father is a Vietnam Combat Veteran. Thank You ALL for your service to our nation. May God be with you all. Lisa P. Maddox

maureen mccarville wrote on 2006-07-21 20:51:27.0

Comments: Dear Sir,Senator McCain,

I have heard family stories over the years about Uncle Paul.I was born in 1958 and know him only through family stories passed on to me.

He was Paul L. McKittrick a PVT. with the 29th Infantry Regiment USA. Co.L. He joined the Military in 1950 and served in the Korean war. He is officially listed as dying Oct 31, 1950 however his body was never recovered by his family.

He is listed as being born, 4 Nov 1933. Military records show that he was interred six years after death on 20 Feb, 1956 in Rosslyn Va. Section or plot 33, grave or lot no. 5795.

Until July of 2006 we did not have the above mentioned records. My Mother along with other family members always held out the hope for years that Uncle Paul could be alive somewhere, possibly in a prison camp.

My grandmother went to her grave always believing this "hope" to be true. My mother received letters from Uncle Paul while he was in boot camp and the letters abruptly stopped when he was shipped out to Korea in the fall of 1950. My mother was 15 at the time.

Letters of MIA were sent to my grandmother but a body or dog tags belonging to our Uncle Paul were never located/given to our family.

Our elderly Aunt Jan wrote to the government asking for information earlier this year. The information received gave us hope that questions we felt may never be answered could now be addressed.

In all this I would like to add a story of divine interest.

Virgil, another Uncle and Paul's brother recently passed away due to cancer. In the days preceding his death my mother and Uncle Virgil(her brother) had a few heart to heart talks about life after death. My mother asked Uncle Virgil if when he crossed over, and if there was a way, to please let her know somehow what happened to their brother Paul. Uncle Virgil promised to do his best.

The morning of Uncle Virgil's funeral our Aunt Jan told my mother she had something for her. She explained she had written a letter to the government a few months prior asking for any information regarding Uncle Paul. She felt after all these years she would look for closure for the family. She received a copy of his "Report of Interment" just before the funeral and gave my mother a copy that morning. Thank you Uncle Virgil, good job!

Any information about Uncle Paul, his comrades, whereabouts, what may have actually happened to him and his company, anything at all, even the smallest of details would provide a great comfort to our family. Especially my mother.

The death benefit received by my Grandmother for my Uncle Paul's Military service allowed her to pay back taxes and keep the family farm all those years ago. Uncle Paul looked out for her even after death. The farm is still owned by family and is located in Viola Wisconsin. It still has the old outhouse.

While I could add a whole lot more to the history of all those years ago I will leave it as is for now.

A final note is that Uncle Paul was only 17 when he offically died.

On behalf of the Mckittrick/McCarville family, Thank you for any help you can give.

Maureen McCarville.

My father, John Henry Wolff, was in the war and was severely injured a few months after the war began. He was in the hospital in Hawaii for 2 years. Anyone know him?

I don't know the camp or unit my uncle was in or the unit of my father.

Comments: Looking for ANYONE that knew my father (good, bad or indifferent)...

William B Sarfaty, William Isaac Sarfaty, Bill Sarfaty, Scotty Sarfaty... all names that he used at one time or another... others are possible....

My real father was concealed from me until after his death in the mid 1980's. My mom changed my last name and I was raised to believe that my step-father was my real father.

William B Sarfaty was in Army and in Japan when N Korea began invasion in July 1950, his unit was one of the first sent to stop the invasion. Info I have gotten so far indicates that he was Wounded in Battle during the first 10 days of the War... I have indications that he spent recuperative time in the Osaka Army Hospital...but afterward was returned to duty in Korea.... I have un-substantiated reports that he was a POW... but have no independant proof of this.

I would like to hear from ANYBODY that knew or was acquainted with him... He was not a perfect person and I understand a little of why my mother kept him from me BUT I would like to know something about him. I have tracked down some family in California but I'm in Georgia and can't get out to the west coast. Most of the family that I've contacted do not know what kind of history or, at least, are not willing to share anything about his past....

Serial Number: RA13350239, Branch: Infantry, Military Occupation Specialty: 04745. County of Residence: District of Columbia.

Sonny was take POW while fighting on 11/26/50 OR 11/30/50 (IÂ’ve seen both dates published on references) and died while a POW on 2/28/51. Because of the date of his capture I believe that he was involved in a battle at Kunuri, but I canÂ’t confirm that. Family wonÂ’t talk about it, but I want my sons (8 & 10) to know about him and his experience and sacrifice on behalf of our country. Can you please help? Did you know him or know of him? I would like to find out where he was fighting when he was taken, and the circumstances surrounding his death. I want to honor his memory by knowing his story. Thank you so much. Respectfully, Lisa Reinhart .

He was a very quiet man, and always whistled. I could never get close to him when I was a child,as he kept everyone at a distance. Even through all of this for him and for our family, I still miss him so very much and will never forget my father and all of the other men that fought for our country, and are still fighting to defend us. Comments: My name is Gary Morris. My brother Sgt. John (Jack) C. Morris, Jr., in "E" Company, 19th. Infantry Regiment of the 24th. Infantry Division. He was listed on the "944 List" and date of him being killed was 10/8/1950. He was involved in the "Death March of the 200". I'm his only living survivor now, as both our parents are deceased and neither of us have siblings. What I would like to find out is if there is anyone that remembers my brother who I may get in contact with. At the time of his death I was 5 years old, but have fond memories of him as a child. I would like to find out anything I could of where he was killed, and maybe someday be able to have his body brought home. But mostly, I just would like to talk to someone who may have known him. Anything you can assist me with is appreciated.

Comments: This is all of the information that I have on my uncle, Sergeant Gary Earl Littlefield:

Born: Ocotober 22, 1931 Died: February 28, 1951 Serial Number: RA18282616 Rank: Sergeant MOS: 0345 Truck Driver Light 2d Engineer Comabt Battalion 2d Infantry Division

Uncle Gary was in the Battle of the Ch'ongch'on (28 Nov-1 Dec 1950) during the move south from Kunu-ri toward Sunch'on.

Letter from Wm. E. Bergin, Major General, The Adjutant General of the Army to Mrs. Birdie Ann Littlefield, dated 1 December 1950:

"Your son became missing in action near Sonchu, North Korea, while his unit was fighting through a strong heavily defended opposing forces' roadblock in an effort to reach Sunchon, North Korea."

He remained MIA until a letter dated 8 September 1953 from Robert E. Parsons, Chaplain, 1st Lieutenant, United States Army, San Francisco, CA:

"As Chaplain of the 2d Engineer Combar Battalion, it is with deep regret that I write to you an official notification concerning the loss of your son, Sergeant Gary E. Littlefield, RA 18282616, a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 2d Engineer Combat Battalion.

On 30 November 1950, your son was reported missing in action after a general withdrawal of his battalion from defensive positions near Sonchu, North Korea. Recent information received by this headquarters from the Department of Army indicates that Gary was captured by the enemy the same day he was reported missing in action, and that he died of pneumonia on 28 February 1951, while in prisonor of war camp."

Uncle Gary was buried on April 4, 1955; National Cemetery, 19th Street, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Section 44; Grave 3030B.

Any additional information concerning my uncle would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I am trying to find information regarding the "21" POWs sent to China about. The official story from the military was the POWs chose to stay in China. My dad, Arlie Pate, was one of the "21". He never spoke of his ordeal, however, we believe he was subjected to an experimental project on brainwashing for 4 years. The military has refused to comment on this subject. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was so excited to find this site! I am looking for information on my
uncle, James A. Wallen, who was reported MIA in July 1950.

He last reported to roll call on July 18, 1950, and the family was
notified by telegram that he was wounded on July 25, 1950.

Shortly thereafter, another telegram came that said he was MIA.

We do have reason to beleive that he was taken prisoner. My
grandparents received a visit from a young man that claimed that
he was in a prison camp with James, and the last time he was seen
he was alive and well. Thank you so much for making this site
available!

MSG Gonzales, Task Force Smith

On Sun, 28 Jul 1996 CarlosG903@aol.com wrote:
Dear Mr. Barker,

I am the son of MSG(ret) Florentino Gonzales. My father served on
the combat unit to engage North Korean units as part of Task Force
Smith, commanded by Lt. Col. Brad Smith, on July 5, 1950.

To date, what I know, my father was: one of two machine gunners
assigned to the the Task Force drawn out of occupation duty stationed
in Camp Woods, Japan, from the 24th Infantry Division, now
mechanized.

In the engagement that ensued, my father's machine assistant, was
a kid from Ohio, named Vernon Anthony Wade,
whom my father attempted to save, while the Force was being
out-flanked and effectively over-runned after 7 hours of fighting
with enemy forces. From what I have been able to collect, my father
volunteered to cover the withdrawing forces. He was the sole
surviving machine gunner. The other, I assume was taken out.

Thinking of the size of the enemy force, in the thousands, compared
to the hundreds in Task Force Smith and also outgunned and manned
with inexperienced kids.I still find it a wonder that the Task Force
was able to hold back the enemy for 7 hours.

From what I been able to acertain, from sparodic conversations with
my Father, various books, and pieces of literature, my Father
provided cover, tried to protect his assistant, Wade. In the process,
a grenade was hauled over my Father's nest which landed at the
slope behind my Father's position and roll into the fox-hole where
Wade had taken cover as instructed by my Father. Wade was killed.

To Wade's misforture, his demise was not immediate.

What resulted was my Father's position being eventually over-runned,
him taken captive, and spent the entire Korean War as a P.O.W.

If you can obtain the May 11, 1953 issue of Life
magazine, you will encounter a picture of my Dad, along with other
POWs being paraded thru the streets of Seoul .he is in a row of
three, under a banner, from left to right, consisting of a tall lanky
white male, an injured Black man, and my Dad. At the time, it was
believed that he was a KIA.

After the war and release, my Father received the Distinguished
Service Cross for his actions. He later on graduated thru the ranks
up to Master Sargent serving in various G-2 units across three regions,
Europe, Vietnam, and Korea.

I thank you for your time.

On behalf of my dear friend and neighbor, I write.

The Florczyk Family was notified in 1950 that their son and brother
PVT Edward S. Florczyk had died while captured in
Korea. No remains were recovered. I understand that numerous requests
for information from the military followed that notification.

Since that time, the family has wondered if it was possible that Edward
was still a POW in Korea?

Last month, after reading the Readers Digest publication of Johnson's
List, with so much accuracy accredited, they asked me to retrieve a
copy. Edward's name appeared on Johnny's List. Tears of grief and
relief were shed by all.

PFC Wayne "Johnnie" Johnson is truely a hero. He knew that what he
was doing was good and right. He created and suffered for his list,
for the families, for my friend. I don't know how to thank someone
for something like this. His courage and dedication can not go without
thanks. He should know how grateful this family is for all he has given
of himself, and the peace of mind he has given to them after all these
years.

From: "Alfred H. Elliott, III" alelliott@juno.com

Dear Sir:

I am assisting a former member of the U.S. Army, Mr. Tom Stoney, to
gather information on his brother, CPL Oliver H. Stoney, Jr.

CPT Stoney served with C Co, 1st Bn, 24th Regiment, 25th Infantry
Division in Korea. He was captured on 26 or 27 November 1950.
We believe he was held in a prisoner of war camp in northern Korea.
During repatriation, CPT Stoney's family was informed that he had died
in captivity. At the time of notification, Mr. Tom Stoney was himself
assigned to the Korean Theater. We would greatly appreciate any
information you might have or information you might be able to
provide to help in our search.

Thank you for your assistance.

I just want some info on it for my records. I am very proud of him for

8th Army Ranger Company 8213AU

From: Kubinak@aol.com
Date: Wed, 15 May 1996

I'm trying to find information/or how to get information on
Sumner John Kubinak. He was declared MIA in Unsan Korea 11/26/1950.

He was laterawarded the Bronze Star 6/10/1952 and Purple Heart 1/4/1954
I don't know much else.

Thank you for whatever help you can offer.

Susan Kubinak, DVM.

---more info----

This info is on this background material for his Bronze Star.

He was scheduled for return July 21, 1950. The Korean action
started in June and he was sent to Korea with the Ord Small Arms Dept.
At the front lines he joined the 8th Army Ranger Company.

Apparently there were involved in a takeover of a hill. "In their sixth
assault, the hostile force gathered its entire strength and launched a
tremendous attack in an attempt to dislodge the friendly troops from
the hill. Because of the overwhelming numbers of the enemy,
instructions were received by the company to withdraw.

As his comrades fell back, Corporal KUBINAK steadfastly remained
in his position in order to provide covering fire and, when last seen,
was still pouring fire into the ranks of the onrushing enemy with
deadly precision."

That was on his section II AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL.
Do you know much about the 8th Army Ranger Company.

I got these papers copied and sent to me by his nephew and namesake,
Sumner Pearce Kubinak.

You may see his record on our database. The date indicates he
