Comments: Camp 7, came into being after the war. Those of us who were in that area did not know it as camp 7. Camp 7 also is knows as the APEX area and includes the following towns: Manpo-jin, ChungGang-jin, Hanjang-nee, Andong and several other smaller towns.

Comments: I am trying to get info on Co A, 5th Cav Reg. in Korea in 1950-1951. Hopefully someone will be able to guide me in the right direction as I have not been able to find any. Some things I can remember such as the name of Task Force Crombez (sic), Hill 203, the big battle on Jul 25, 1950 and several comrades but for some reason, I do not remember their names. If someone knows where I can get such info, please let me know.

Comments: I am responding to the questions about my great-grandfather CPT. Ambrose H. Nugent. As was stated he was released in Sept. 1953 and was court martialed soon after on collaborating with enemy forces. After being aquitted, he served a number of years in the military and retired a Lt. Col. He died in Feburary of 1988 and is buried in Corpus Christi, TX. If you wish further information on him please e-mail me and I can provide you with contact information for his immediate family.

Sept. 1 ,1953.
A phone number was found for him and given to Don Barrett.

---more from Barrett----
Dad's interest was that, in 1950 he carried photographs of both men,
found near the Naktong River. His column heading North from
Pyongyang were some 48 hrs. behind a P.O.W. train.
They finally lost touch with it near Sukchon and he always thought
at least one of the men may have been on it. Later events confirmed
the five missing men from his own Brigade were already dead in
South Korea.

Doug,
I am the record keeper for the Korean War Ex-POW Assoc. I checked our
records and this is what I came up with: MAJ Dunham was from Littleton,
New Hampshire; assigned to Hq, 1st Bn, 34th Inf, 24th Div; died in
prison camp 7 Aug 1951.
CPT Nugent, retired as a Major, was assigned to Hq Btry, 52d FA Bn,
24th Div; repatriated 1 Sep 1953; died at age 78 in Corpus Christi, TX.
After repatriation Nugent was court-martialed at Ft. Sill, OK, for
collaborating but was acquited of all charges.

Hi there Tim,
Thank you for the POW info. and a check of Dad's records following the
civilian prisoners, that as you said, left Pyongyang on 5 Sept. along
with 726 Military POW's.
Moving by night only, the train passed through Sunchon, arriving at
Manpo-jin on 11 Sept. Aparently, by this time the mil. POW's were packed
onto open flat cars and dying at a rate of 2-3 each day.
They were moved out of Manpo-jin on 8 Oct. and after stays in various
small villages were back by 30 Oct.
A new commander they would name 'The Tiger' arrived, and told them next
day, "You will march or die". Not an idle threat, as both parties would
find out.
Regarding the second group, he had been unable to confirm the date they
left Pyongyang and your 17 Oct. date has allowed him to put an exact
date.
