Keywords: I was stationed on MATCOM Mountain south of Taegu Korea from August 1956 to August 1957 as a Radio Repairman AFSC 30451. The site was "snowed in" in Feburary of 1957. The FEAF AACS Group Newspaper AACS World had an article with pictures published shortly thereafter, my copy was lost by a relative. I would like to obtain a copy for my records. Would appreciate any suggestions on how I can track down a copy. George Haas A/1c AF13545008 August 1955 to 1959

K-2 1952 Control tower during B29 crash

Comments: In passing I noticed Gordon Nelson comments about the B-29 that crashed at K-2 hitting a crane what was at the end of 2,000 feet of unfinished concrete runway. The main runway was PSP, not as easy to spot during a morning landing. The pilot was advised of the active runway to his left of the unfinished runway which was far easier to see. On his final approach he didn't look lined up correct and was advised again. never the less he landed on the concrete and saw the crane just in time to try to avoid hitting it dead on. The crane went between the two engines on the aircraft right side and stopped the aircraft dead in its tracks. the main damage was to the aircraft.

Comments: I just responded to an old message from BROSE who mentioned the ADF Homer site Tare George, Here is what I wrote. By the way his email address is no longer valid.

Do you remember the night a controller was standing guard mount over the May Day weekend when everyone thought that shots had been fired. Well, I was the controller and I flipped a pebble into the air and it hit the quonset hut and bounced back and forth between the hut and the kitchen shack a few times.

It sounded like bullets hitting the sheet metal and all in the kitchen/mess hall turned out the lights and began sneaking outside all crouched over. I was standing with my carbine slung over my shoulder just inside the sandbags and said I hadn't heard or seen a thing.

I wasn't about to tell on myself!

The next day we practiced firing our carbines by shooting frogs in the rice paddy below us.
