Lt. Alvin E. Crane Remains returned from Tosan |

Mary Crane wrote on 2005-12-03 10:08:33.0
Comments: My brother-in-law, Alvin Earl Crane (Sonny) AO-1903066 was assigned to the 6148th Tactical Recon Squadron. He was the pilot of a LT 6G and was accompanied by Army Sgt. Gordon Zorn. Sgt. Zorns body was recovered soon after the plane went down. Sonny was reported Missing in Action September 13, 1951. In 1990 the North Koreans conducted their own unilateral recovery on their side of the Demilitarized Zone near Tosan. The remains were returned to the U. S. On August 22, 2005 JPAC completed its analysis and determined the remains were those of 1st Lt. Crane.
In May of 2006 my husband Art will fly to Hawaii to bring Sonny home. The service is to be held on May 13 at 1PM at Santa Rosa Memorial Park, California. The Air Force will conduct a military service including honors and flyover. There is a possibility of a second flyover by a T-6 Unit in the Sonoma County area.
If you knew Sonny or if you would like to attend the service, please contact me for further information. Thank You to All of Our Veterans&..Mary Crane

Comments: I am interested in the excellent web site and would be pleased to hear from anyone who might remember me all those years ago. I flew with many pilots surviving 77 missions. We controlled strikes on the Commonwealth Divisional front and the central front around 'T Bone Hill" during many actions.
Keywords: Commonwealth Division, Hills 159 and 210, Dec to Apr 1953 tank troop commander. Apr to Jul 1953 attached to USAF Mosquitos based at K47 Chunchon as T6 observer/strike controller. Seek contact with anyone on the base, or maybe USAF, USM or Commonwealth pilots flying strike aircraft at that time, who can remember the only 'godamn limey' strike controller. Comments: I always like the moto of the 49th sq, and the guys always saying "don't get klanked". I used that just once after I left korea cause everyone thought it made no sense. I still remember the saying after all these years. Guys I remember are John 'jack' Web that ended up with the chaplins office, and another drinking buddy James 'Rocky' Mancato from NYC.

Comments: My Dad said little, though listed where he had been, more or less, during his military career. He died in 2001. I'm his "spittin' image" but softer around the edges. Would appreciate any comments from anyone who knew him. He was a Capt. in the Army but had volunteered duty with this unit.

He was a pilot, though I don't know what you guys were flying over there at the time (C-119 or KC-97?). His name was Jere Lottner. If the name rings a bell, please feel free to contact me.
