Comments: My uncle, Nikolai Derunov, was a MiG-15(?) pilot during this War, perhaps in aerial reconnaissance,305(?)regiment. He perished in the battle in 18-AUG-53, a month after I was born. His wife, son and doughter still are living in St.Peterburg. We have no information about his death. Currently I am working in Korea. I would like to find and visit at least a place of his death. Can anybody help me with information about activity of Soviet air force in this day(s)?

Their Archives contain Group and Squadron histories in Quarterly or
semi-annual reports, microfilm etc. for the period from June 1950 thru
July 1953!

I have obtained Squadron histoty of the 93rd from June thru December
1952, reflecting some detail re casualties, Aircraft losses, personnel
etc. Hope this will help some of our "brothers" families!

Breuer, William. Shafow Warriors: The Covert War in Korea.
NY: John Wiley & Sons, 1996. P.223, "Soviet pilots were
flying combat missions over North Korea." P. 224, "...the solid
red star of the Soviet air force was painted on fuselages and wings,
rather than Chinese or North Korean markings. Also, for nearly
two years, UN pilots had reported hearing Russian voices on
the radios when engaged in dogfights, and, periodically, they
saw "Caucasian faces' under billowing parachutes after a MiG-15
pilot leaped from his damaged plane. Moreover, many of the
enemy pilots were so skilled that the U.S. flyers felt they had
