Nancy Harcar wrote on 2009-11-17 22:20:55.0

Comments: My father's name was John (Johhny) Harcar. He was a sargeant during the Korean War, and was from the Cleveland, Ohio area. Served from 1950-53. Was born in 1929. He died when I was a child and I never got to talk to him about his time. His records were destroyed in some fire in the 1970's in the records office. Any help in my search would be appreciated.

Keywords: 1950, 1953 Johnny Harcar

Keywords: Did anyone serve with a man from Maysville/Washington, KY in Korea by the name of William Dugan, Jr? His nickname was "Oats," but I'm not sure if he was called that over there. He was my father. He died in 1972 when I was two years old. My Mom recently passed away, and with her, any memories of my father. I would dearly appreciate it if anyone who knew him or served with him to contact me. Thank you, Edith (Edie) Dugan

Keywords: He doesn't talk much about it nor does his brother. Both wounded too badly to return to combat. I want to gather information so that it isn't lost for future family members. We are working with VA here to get medals that are unclaimed and fill in family history and service records. I know very little about it and would like to preserve all I can.

Comments: My dad served in the Korean War, i believe during the years of 51-54. He told me he was a tank gunner. I have a picture of him in his army jacket leaning against a truck with snowy mountains in the background. I also have a postcard that read "Christmas greetings from Korea." He received a bronze star, but we do not know why, since no records seem to be available. If any other veteran served with my Dad, I would like to find out about his service years. Thanks, Teresa

Comments:

Keywords: I am trying to research my Dads military background. I have all of his DD214 papers and his service records marked DA 24. Although these have led me in numerous direction I am not familar with some of the army lingo. During the Korean War he was with the 5th Infantry but it does not come up on the above registry any help would be appreciated. He was awarded three bronze stars during Korea and I would very much like to know how, why and when. I have tried the archives in St. Louis and since the fire they do not have any real info that I can use. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you, Jerry Boyette
