Comments: My father Fred Penney was in Mortars and then later a scout. I know he was in Able Company, 1st Bat., 1st Marine Reg. If anyone has picures of Able company or the Mortars unit I would love to see them to see if I can pic out my father. We only have one picture of him from the war. What ever pictures you can e-mail would be great so I can see if my dad is in it?

Keywords: Fred Penney, Frederick E. Penney Jr., Marine, was one of the "frozen Chosin" also was in Mortars I believe Able company, early 1950's, 1st Bat., 1st., Reg.

Comments: Bobby Burton was a teenager who lived in my neighborhood when I was a child. He was a wonderful person. He worked in his parents neighborhood grocery store throughout high school ... and was like a big brother to every one of us. In those days, it was not uncommon for our mothers to send us to "Burton's little store" just before lunch or supper to get "six thin slices of Blue Bell bologna... or a loaf of bread ..., etc" and Bobby was always there with a grin from ear to ear ... and if he was feeling particularly silly, he'd "threaten" us young shopper / errand runners with " I'm gonna come out from behind this counter and grab you up and cut your ears off..." and we squeal and run around the bread rack... and then if his Mom wasn't around, he'd reach in the ice cream cooler and sneak a popsicle or an ice cream bar to us ... and shoo us out the door. I cried when I learned he had been killed. All of the kids did. I'm 65 years old and I still can't mention Bobby's name without weeping. I'm writing a book about growing up in this little, non-descript mid-western town. One of the chapters will be devoted to Bobby Burton. I acquired the information in the Keyword box from WILLIAM L. BEIGEL 4824 NEWTON STREET TORRANCE, CA 90505. I wonder how I might be able to use the information I have to learn more about Sgt. Burton's life in the Marines as well as his death? Thanks, Dr. Russ Fine Birmingham, AL < rfine@uab.edu >

Keywords: SGT Robert Burton, Serial No. 1167566, of the 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, killed in action on March 27, 1953.

Can anyone tell me what the 195 might represent? His battalion/unit/platoon?? Maybe if I knew more about the 195 I can find him on the Korean sites. Thanks for any help/advice. Edie Dugan

Comments: Dad passed away in 2006 of an aortic anurism. He was always proud of being a Combat United States Marine, and proud of me for carrying on the tradition. He only told me stories of his Korean experiences after I had become a Marine. I never knew anyone who cried from his soul as he did when he held me after returning from Iraq. Dad was my hero, and best friend. He never forgave the Army for running a tank over a hill and saying it was clear, and then his buddy, Bratback was shot back into my dads arms. Anyone with information on his time in country, or as a Marine, please contact me.

Comments: My Dad, Nicholas J. Sheppard served with C-1-1-1; I believe he was in in a leadership position. We know that he walked out onto a minefield to rescue one of his officers. We spent a few summers with him at Camp LeJeune during his active duties. Anyway, as we're trying to get his memoirs down on paper, any stories anyone can contribute would be greatly appreciated! At 82, he's still in excellent health [golf and tennis any day he can get an opponent or a foursome that is YOUNG enough for him to compete with]. Many thanks.

Comments: I know absolutely nothing about the unit, hill number, etc., that my grandfather, Herbert Marion McCauley served under, but I do know that he was a Marine from Maryland, and fought in the Korean War.

My grandfather died when my mother was 2 days old. Since she's never known her father, any memories others share with her are very precious. I'm just trying to find anyone who might have known my grandfather, and can tell her about him, or what he did in Korea. The 50th anniversary of his death is coming (Dec. 27) and I know he's on her mind quite a bit as a result.
