Comments: Capt. Harold Streit was a Naval Officer who has recently passed on. He was a Naval Doctor and always proud of his service with the Corps at Yudon-Ri. Any one that may have known him please submit a response. His bits and pieces of the memories he has passed on to me are very limited. Respectfully, Philip Streit (Vietnam Veteran).

Comments: My father recently passed away and I'm trying to find anybody that might have known him while he was an active Marine. He was with the 1st Division and fought at Chosin Reservoir where he was wounded. He was also awarded the Bronze Star. Dad never spoke much about his days on active duty and would like to hear from anyone that might have known him.
God Bless the Marines,

Linda Hasman wrote on 2006-03-26 17:09:39.0
Comments: Hello -- Does anyone have any documentation proving that the 1st Marine Division, 7th Regiment, Charlie Company served in combat during the Korean War. My father-in-law was recently told by the Pentagon that he is ineligible for the Combat Action Ribbon because he has no proof that he participated in "bona fide ground or surface combat fire fight or action during which he/she was under enemy fire". My father-in-law did indeed serve in combat and was even wounded.
We would appreciate any help that you can offer.

Comments: UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS HEADQUARTERS 1ST MARINE DIVISION (REINF) FMF c/o FLEET POST OFFICE SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA
In the name of the President of the United States, the Commanding General, 1st Marine Division (Reinf) FMF, takes pleasure in awarding the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to
CORPORAL JOHN C. ONTIVEROS UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS for service as set forth in the following
CITATION:
"For meritorious achievement in connection with operations against the enemy in KOREA while serving with a Marine infantry company from 7 May 1951 to 30 March 1952.
Serving as a fire team leader, Corporal ONTIVEROS displayed outstanding courage, initiative and devotion to duty.
On one occasion when seriously wounded during an attack on heavily defended enemy positions, he refused evacuation and continued to designate targets and direct the advance of his fire team until forced to be evacuated.
On 17 January 1952 when his company came under a savage attack by a reinforced enemy squad, he left the cover of his bunker, exposing himself with complete disregard for personal safety to intense enemy fire. This action, causing many enemy casualties, assisted in the final repulsing of the attack.
Corporal ONTIVEROS' heroism and fortitude throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."
Corporal ONTIVEROS is authorized to wear the Combat "V".
/s/ J.T. SELDON Major General, U.S.Marine Corps Commanding

alyson burnett wrote on 2005-04-03 21:19:52.0
Comments: Grandpa Dave was a family friend and a mentor to my 14 year old son. I just thought I'd share his Obituary in the event that anyone knew him.
Semper Fidelis. David Robert Jepsen, 76, passed from life to life eternal Thursday, March 17, 2005, at his home in Harrisonville, MO. A Military Memorial Service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar, Overland Park, KS, on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at 11 a.m. The family will visit with friends at a luncheon at the church following the services. Interment of ashes will be in Illinois at a future date. "Grampa Dave" was born July 15, 1928, in Oak Park, IL, to David Jepsen of Germany and Rose E. (Haller) Knorr of Forest Park, IL. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to be one of the first to fight. He then reenlisted in the Reserves so as to finish high school; which he did until he was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict. After 7+ years, this A-1-7 Marine was honorably discharged in 1953, as a Staff Sergeant and "Chosin Few" survivor. Returning to Maywood, IL, he became an active lifetime member of V.F.W. Post 2193, the Colour Guard Sgt. of the Winfield Scott Rebels Senior Drum and Bugle Corps, the American Legion, the Marine Corps League, the First Marine Division Assoc., the Korean War Veterans Association; the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the group closest to his heart, an exclusive fraternity of honor: The Chosin Few. Dave became the beloved husband of Joan Clara (nee) Zieman when they were united in marriage on February 20, 1954; living in Maywood for over 45 years. He was employed by Brinks' Inc. in Chicago, where he was a driver/messenger for 31 years. Upon retirement, he actively pursued his second love of Civil War history by becoming a re-enactor and living historian with the 154th Tennessee Senior Vol. Infantry, Co. K, C.S.A. and the Tenth Illinois. After moving to Harrisonville, he was able to continue playing with the 10th Missouri while educating both school children and adults alike, about the war between the states and the daily life of a soldier, whether he was at an event or visiting a school classroom. He was loved by all who met him and his guiding hand and knowledge will be deeply missed, for in him, you could always find a smile and helping hand, which went above and beyond the call of duty for anything you were asking for. His legacy, legend, and "Semper Fi" attitude will be carried on by Jo, his wife of 51 years; by his two strong sons, David Randolph Jepsen of Overland Park, KS, and Carl Michael Jepsen of Petaluma, CA, and his wife, Lisa; and his two grandsons, Christopher and Scotty Jepsen. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the family for distribution to the American Cancer Society; the Chosin Few; and/or the Marine Corps "Semper Fi" Fund for Injured Marines, in care of the funeral home. The few have now become fewer and the proud could not be prouder because of the selfless life lived by this former Marine, as it is said, and true: "Once a marine, Always a Marine!" Dad, we know you are now happily on duty at the gate. Semper Fidelis. (Arrangements: D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS, 913-451-1860) Published in the Kansas City Star on 3/20/2005.
